from me, christa larwood, here at home, and from the rest of the team in theirs, it's goodbye.ew week, bitterly cold and snow showers, amber weather warning still remains in force across parts of east anglia and the south—east. we have some accumulations causing road closures in kent, as you can see by that picture. we have also had a keen easterly wind whipping up the north sea, making it feel a bitingly cold at times and actually this easterly flow is set to stay with us for the next few days. so yes, it is a beast from the east, the question is how long will it stay? it has been driving in snow showers across eastern scotland and north—east england through the day, more persistent snow across the south—east due to the legacy of a weather front here. that is where the amber weather warning remains throughout the night. and into tomorrow lunchtime. as you can see, plenty of snow showers are set to continue. it will be a cold start to monday as well, with temperatures just below freezing. we will start off monday with plenty of isobars on the chart, that easterly wind a notable

from me, christa larwood, here at home, and from the rest of the team in theirs, it's goodbye.s tend to dominate weather headlines, doesn't it? but i want to point out that for many hit western areas today we've got some lovely sunny spells. this was cumbria just a few hours ago and we have got relatively mild are still in place with temperatures peaking around seven or 8 degrees. but in colder further east and it is this cold air that will dominate the story over the next few days, originating from the arctic and coming down across scandinavia it is also going to interact with storm dassey which is really going to fog across the far north of europe butjust the tail end of that weather front interacting with that cold air and that could bring wintry precipitation over the next few hours. some showers drifting in off the north sea and clearer skies as we go through the night so that means a cold, icy start first thing on sunday morning. but it is the south—east that will be the cause for concern during the early part of sunday. the met office has issued an amber warning potentia

from me, christa larwood, here at home, and from the rest of the team in theirs, it's goodbye.m the east 2 and during sunday, we'll find a strengthening easterly wind that will bring in much colder air, and that means we're going to find snow falling more widely. the focus of the snow over the past few days has been in scotland and it's still snowing here now, but the emphasis changes more towards the south—east of england, where we're closer to storm darcy. that is bringing with it thicker cloud and added moisture, which is bumping into that really cold air that we can trace all the way back through the baltic sea and up towards the arctic. so we're going to find snow falling by the morning in the south—east and east anglia. it may well be quite slippery elsewhere, and further north we'll find snow showers coming in off the north sea. let's focus on the heavier snow where we have this amber snow warning from the met office. it covers parts of suffolk, essex and kent, widely five to ten centimetres, more in some places. and it's going to be blizzards and drifting as well, with

from me, christa larwood, here at home, and from the rest of the team in theirs, it's bye—bye. the moment, not only the coldest night of the winter so far but the coldest night in the uk in over a decade. so, needless to say, thursday morning starts with a very hard frost wherever you are and some icy stretches as well. temperatures first thing widely well below freezing, about —3 to —8 degrees for many of us, but in the coldest spots, we are likely to see temperatures even across the southeast of england and east anglia down to around —10, possibly —20 across the highlands of scotland. so, very cold start, icy stretches around, some dangerous travelling conditions where you have got that ice, particularly in the east. through the day, we'll see more cloud working in from the southwest of england, wales and northern ireland. a few flurries of snow across the higher ground of the southwest of england. it's going to turn windy here, too, with gusts up to about 45 mph. elsewhere, the winds not as strong, a lot of dry weather, a lot of sunshine around on thursday, but not lifting t
