i'm lewis vaughanjones and this is bbc news. bye—bye. hello there. saturday and sunday. but by the end of the weekend, we'll start to see some milder air making inroads, particularly across more western parts. but we start this morning off on a settled and bright note across eastern areas. windy and very cold, mind you. further west, for northern ireland, some disruptive snow to move in through the morning period. accumulations up to 5—10 cm and that snow will be blowing around and the strong winds drifting in places. the snow will then slowly move eastwards, affecting western parts of scotland, into wales and the south—west of england, but it won't reach central or eastern areas so, here, it'll stay dry, but cloud cover will move in again in the afternoon, so it will turn a bit grey. a very windy, gusty day for all areas. factor in those strong winds with these sorts of temperatures, then it's going to feel bitterly cold wherever you are. these are the feel—like temperatures. it could feel even like —10 celsius across some spots of the east. so, a v

my colleague lewis vaughanjones has been speaking to alvin migues in dallas, emergency disaster servicesmy in texas. he outlined the support that's been put in place for people across the state. since the event started early last week, the salvation army has been working to open all of our facilities so that people will have a warm place to go and stay. just like you mentioning your story, there are a lot of people running out of food, water is definitely becoming a huge issue for us. and we done everything we can from our main hub to start supplying as many folks as we can with water, food products and of course blankets and warm coats. we are working diligently with all of our vendors to try and secure food boxes so that we can take those out and start delivering them across the state. we are hoping to receive up to 20 truckloads of food boxes in the next week or so. it is remarkable, just that basic need that need to be met. we heard thatjoe biden has approved this declaration of a major disaster for texas which will release more funds. from a national level. what difference does that

you can reach me on twitter — i'm @ l vaughanjones. iam i am lewise temperatures in the isles of scilly reached ten celsius on saturday evening and that's the first time we've had double figures in the uk in a week. so the sun is now setting on this spell of bitterly cold weather. for all of us in the week ahead, things will be much milder. we'll notice it by day and by night. but it means the return of spells of rain on what will be quite a blustery week. already as sunday begins, milder air is nudging into western parts. for many of us, it's one last cold morning as temperatures hover close to freezing. there is a bit of wet weather moving in from the atlantic, and for scotland and northern england, there's a chance of seeing some freezing rain, rain that freezes instantly as it hits any surface and that could make things treacherously icy in some spots as we go through sunday. so, do have that in your mind if you plan on making a journey. for all of us, it will be cloudy and there will be outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards as the day goes on, a
