i disagree with a lot of actions that twitter takes, facebook, google and from my own perspective that is right of center, free market, conservative, to my way of thinking there is a bias in their actions against those that have that perspective but nevertheless, that said, i have always said that these companies have a first amendment right to put up on their platforms what they wish and they have a first amendment right to take down what they wish. that is a different question though which i assume we will get to hear probably at some point of that section 230 immunity and liability from being sued because i don't think they have a first moment right necessarily to be immune so all of that is a way of saying when you get to the question of solutions and what to do about it and it is really difficult and i think i will just throw this out before turning it back to harold because we may ultimately end up in the same place and i think and i am beginning to believe that it is really a competition problem and the way to ultimately improve the situation really is to have more platforms and

so i think in this case, dealing with companies like facebook and twitter and other social media companies, tech and google and youtube, i think the landscape is much different. these are not products. they provide services that are free. welfare guided u.s. antitrust policies for the last several decades are up for an overhaul. i would think we're going to be seeing a lot of efforts in congress, a lot of efforts from the justice department, from the white house, to push some of these ideas, to redefine how we measure anomaly power in the hands of these companies. but i would expect that the real action is going to take a bit longer than the next 12-18 months. peter: emily birnbaum. emily: yeah, so today the committee is holding their first hearing of the 117th congress. they are asking experts over the next month, they think there are going to be multiple hearings, when they start to hone in on legislation. the chairman of the committee says he intends to put out legislation either through one big package or multiple packages, some with bipartisan port -- bipartisan support, some without.
