it is become, -- because, if you cannot tell from my accent, i'm from massachusetts. i learned about the mayflower, the arrival of the 120 pilgrims, america's first thanksgiving and the boston tea party, and of course, the shot heard around the world. that was the basis of my historical knowledge of colonial america. when i first got into this, i did not do it as a historian. quite frankly, i fell into this strictly by accident. but i want to do, is explained to you how i, as a historian and genealogist, came to learn about the "20 and odd." the family owned a substantial track of land on martha's vineyard back to the 1700s, and in this land dispute we were told we had to create a family pedigree. that dumbfounded us. we raised german shepherds, so when it came to pedigree, we only knew about the american kennel association, the raising of purebred puppies. so the discussion was one of creating a family pedigree. what we had to do was construct our family lineage going back to the 1700s to clearly document that our family owned the land. this dispute was with a very f
