psaki: you're right. testing is a key part of returning to normalcy, whether it's schools or workplaces or businesses, especially as we still have a majority of the population that still needs to be vaccinated. that we are working to expedite that. there is funding in the american rescue plan. there is funding to allow -- to give funding to schools to make that available. so, it's something that we will continue to communicate about, to governors, school leaders, businesses, about the importance of testing. we also have resources passed in the american rescue plan to help alleviate the cost. >> and one more. the nfl has required that it does not want to require players, and coaches and health staff to get the vaccine. they want to play, practice, etc. should the vaccine be required for athletes? press sec. psaki: i don't know that we're making nfl policy from here. but it is certainly recommended by public health officials, by officials from our federal government because that's how we can keep people saf

psaki: yeah. >> [indiscernible] ms. psaki: i can get you more specifics. all the roles that are in our liaison typically have a seat at the table. whether it is health care or climate were community violence, typically having a seat at the table on a range of topics. obviously we have not hired at we just announced. >> you are talking about executive action on gun reform, but the president made it clear he wanted to see congress act. ms. psaki:. >> would he present his own -- as we have seen him with the covid relief plan? would this be something that originates here and not wait for congress? ms. psaki: great question. there's a lot of legislation that have been proposed. there are two background check bills that move -- that are moving their way through the house. there is also a bill from senators feinstein and cicilline that address assault weapons, which is something the president worked to pass in the 1990's. there is a range of steps to increase safety. our team is looking at the legislation that is out there and if there are gaps that need to be fi

psaki: sure. to catch people out who are not following exactly what you are telling, president biden has asked senior members of his team to travel to the border in order to provide a full briefing to him of the influx of unaccompanied miners and assessment of additional steps to be taken to ensure safety and care of these children. safety, security, and privacy concerns, the date and time of the visit will remain confidential, but we will provide a full read once a concludes. >> details on who is going? sec. psaki: we will have those details to share with all of you wants the visit occurs, but i do not anticipate as doing that. >> given some of the president's rhetoric on the campaign and some of the policies he instituted including rolling back immigration policies of the trump era, is he concerned that some of his rhetoric and policies may have inadvertently contributed to the rise in migrants we are seeing at the border, and particular, unaccompanied children, and does he have any intention to

psaki: happy friday. we tried to make this outdoors, it's not technologically probably -- possible yet. maybe one day. a couple of items. there will be a a trip to -- cutting child poverty in half, in connecticut they will hold a listening session at the boys and girls club and the child develop and center pre-the american rescue plan makes the get single investment in childcare since world war ii. this will hopefully help bring more women back to the workforce in a draft that both have called a crisis. increases the tax credit for children, and gives families an additional tax credit to help out childcare costs for children younger than 13. as you have all seen, there have been some tornadoes in the south. we are monitoring those closely. it's a severe weather outbreak that's incorrect -- impacting the southeastern part of the united states. we extend our deepest condolences to people in alabama and mississippi who have lost loved ones. we continue to be in close commune occasion with state and local off

psaki: no. the united states has been, as you know because you've covered it closely, one of the hardest hit countries in the world. more than 500,000 people have died. 1400 people continue to lose their lives every single day. as i noted, there are still a number of factors that are unpredictable that we need to plan for to the best of our ability, including the variants and the impact and what will be most effective as well as what will work best with children. as we get increasing confidence that we have enough vaccine, we will explore options for sharing more broadly. we want to largely be a part of the global solution here. we recognize fully that in order to defeat the pandemic globally, the global community needs to be vaccinated. but there is a shortage of supply at this point around the world. but also including around the country still. and as you know, because you all talk to governors and other elected officials, they are still looking for supply. there are still people who want the

psaki: we certainly do. let me give you a bit of an update on the couple of the steps we are taking. let me say that, like covid, obviously, a different issue, but we recognize this is a big problem. the last administration left us dismantled and unworkable system . like any other problem, we are going to do everything we can to solve it. our focus here is on solutions. let me walk you through a couple of the steps, and we've done this a little bit, but there's always developments on considerations that are underway. first, we've updated -- we've not, but cdc has updated guidelines to return to full capacity. this will help expand capacity to move children more quickly out of cbp facilities. the implementation of that is ongoing. we're -- there is now an embedding of hhs and other staff with cbp, which will allow government to more quickly id, vet, confirm sponsors and family members. as you know, big issues here are expediting what's happening at the border. none of these border patrol facilities are made f

psaki: sure.ent questions. i don't have any prediction for when they will seek it. you probably just have to ask them that question. and i don't have an update on the amount of supply. obviously, there was an order placed last year prior to president biden taking office. and as would not come as a surprise to you given, this is how it's worked with every other vaccine, it doesn't mean you have all of that, right? you often don't have much of it until there is approval. and obviously, we're not going to get ahead of the approval. >> would you be able to follow up with that with us and just let us know how many doses are in that stockpile? sec. psaki: i'm not sure we will have a number to provide, but i'm happy to check for you on that. go ahead. >> jen, one question on last night. the president said he's directing states to ensure that all adults are eligible for the vaccine by may 1. what more do states need to do to achieve that goal? because it sounded a little bit like he was putting the onus o

psaki: this is a popular question. the treasury department is working on what this looks like and what the processing looks like. as the president said we expect a large number of americans to receive relief by the end of the month but in terms of the mechanics of it treasury has to work through that and an update will likely come from them. reporter: you didn't get a single republican vote, does this concern the president about the ability to pass his agenda going forward and what are the implications long-term given he does not have republican support for this? press sec. psaki: the opal office remains open to bipartisan work and i expect he will continue to work with and reach out to democrats and also republicans about ways to work together and he has that bipartisan meetings in the past few weeks. a couple on infrastructure, on cancer, he feels there is a path forward. we are not going to allow bipartisanship to be defined by one zip code. many of the republicans who voted against this are outliers and are against
