joining me now, michigan democratic senator gary peters.hair of the senate homeland committee and the governmental affairs committee. good to see you. you are there. what is your latest expectation or understanding about when this vote will take place and how it will go? >> i think it will be later tonight. we're dealing with another piece of legislation, and we're going to be working on both probably late into the night or perhaps early morning friday. >> we believe that 28 republican senators are going to oppose the commission. we believe that three republicans are agreeing to support it. nine have not said what they are going to do, including three who voted to impeach donald trump. so what is your sense of hope of getting another seven senators to agree with this investigation? >> well, certainly my hope is there. it is essential in my mind that we do have this commission. we need to get all of the facts. here we had this singular event. an attack on the capitol. an attack on our democracy. it is important to know exactly what happened.
