it was the minnesota national guard first armored brigade combat team who completed the first national training center rotation in a covid environment in july of last year. in in response to the attack on january, the capitol, we mobilized and moved over 26,000 national guardsmen to washington, d.c. in less than two weeks. using organic national guard air support and logistics, soldiers from every state and territory arrived to help secure our 59th residential inauguration. while the past year has provided countless examples of the national guard to extraordinary work, today i would like to highlight just a single weekend. labor day of 2020. that weekend, while many were on holiday, more than 64,000 national guardsmen were on duty around the world. roughly 20,000 of the soldiers and airmen were deployed across 34 nations in support of our combatant commanders. more than 18,000 were helping their communities fight covid-19, manning testing sites to cleaning long term care facilities, to working in food banks to ensure fellow americans would not go hungry. more than 1500 were protecting
