amb. neumann: thank you. bassima: thank you for being with us. i would like to give our viewers a status update on where things stand today in afghanistan. after a week of fast-moving events, to what extent are the taliban fully in control of the country and what is the status of evacuations being managed by the united states government? amb. neumann: remember, i am not a spokesman for the united states government. and this is a fast-moving situation. the taliban are in general control of afghanistan. they seem to be in full control of kabul. there are still some places that say they are holding out in resistance and asking for more support. but generally, most of the afghan army has surrendered to the taliban. in kabul, you have an utter mess. we, the united states, i'm not in the government anymore, have brought in about 6000 troops to help secure the airport. however, those troops are not going outside the airport. they are not bringing anybody in from kabul city. the airport is mobbed
