mike murphy, here is a quote from the wall street journal editorial board -- there is a lot there mike, including imagine ignoring the advice of boris, it is the same as the flu johnson. and imagine pointing out that the deal came during the trump administration. are republicans right to weaponize this, knowing that the pictures of pompeo, knowing the role that the trump administration played? >> the -- are they right to weaponize politics question kind of pulls at the threat of the big sweater for either party parties weaponize moments when the opponent is in trouble. it's absolutely true that donald trump started this he is set the flowers to the taliban, they gave him a phony piece and it's just for a slow motion surrender. and biden has caught. it but the politics are also that the clumsiness of all of this is a problem for biden. plus, he has an afghanistan going forward that is a thorny mess. he could debate the larger question of -- should we have gotten out but the debate is the status quo. biden did a good job earlier in his term of going and starting to repair some of the damage trump had done with europeans but the way this was conducted where they feel totally mobbed and not like they were in a partnership as a big problem. i think the optics are terrible and frankly the policy is terrible. the head of the cia -- they sent the cia head down there to talk to the taliban and at least have the media framing that maybe it's fair or it isn't, they said do, and now we are cutting out, even now our european allies that we try to get closer to said that we have to have a stronger plan for evacuation. that, said the middle people in the military are doing an incredible job. biden should be proud of these numbers. i think he is more recipient of that good news then a cause ford, but you really have to hand it to him, the amazing numbers have been done and maybe that will give biden a little bit of credit. >> james, same question that i asked, where does biden need more friends and washington to clear all this? out >> it would be great to benefit to -- what, yes you always have middle mile democrats and i cannot tell you that -- one i've said, do they teach a course at west point, or minneapolis, or john hops coppins on how to lose a war? no, there is no way, no good way, to those of. or we lost this for a long time ago before joe biden became president. all he is doing is getting us out of their. and, i'm sorry, this is not the battle of midway, all right? this is a defeat. and we have to understand that as a country. well of course, we pile into this after we did iran, after iraq. people learn from history. i hope that some of these images will cause us to take a deep breath before we go off on some other wall street journal sponsored invasion around the world. >> the door at the national archives is said that the past is prologue. it's chiseled there for a reason. thankfully, these gentlemen have agreed to stick around. our conversation with them continues, they will help to assess the political wisdom of the anti-mask, anti-vaccine mandate gop governors. four p governors. four crepe corrector lotion... only from gold bond. this is a rare miscalculation, by ron desantis. at least when you look at the raw political numbers. it is clear, that what we knew was inevitable, we are going to send tens of thousands of floridians children into a classroom unmasked, and now we're surprised apparently by the outbreak of covid and the number of people that are quarantined. i think what you're seeing with ron desantis is a bit of a pivot right now. >> so, florida's governor, is now as you may know, pushing treatment rather than prevention against this virus. even as his state broke the record for new cases today. once again, florida leads the way, and to be clear, florida is now reporting the highest daily infection rates since the start of the pandemic began. higher than the battle days, his shift could have something to do with his plummeting popularity, a new poll shows the majority, 51% as you saw there of floridians say they disapprove of how desantis is handling the virus, that could be because an average of 227 people are dying every day in florida, way more than any other state. local entities meanwhile are ignoring the governor's own mask mandate band, washington post reports that half of florida students, now attend schools, where masks are required, in defiance of their own governor. wrap your head around that one. back with us tonight, james carville, and mike murphy, mike, governor greg abbott in texas, doubled down today, on his stance against against vaccine mandates. is this the price, of staying on brand, with the magma crowd, and going after the nomination of your party? if you're a republican lawmaker? >> yes. these guys are playing republican primary politics, where i think overtime, it's going to be proven to be a weaker bet than they think it, is the other side of the equation is, they get in trouble in the general elections. covid is bad for incumbents. i don't care what party there in, and you're seeing all over the country, newsom here in california is in serious jeopardy of the recall, gretchen whitmer in michigan, saying lower poll numbers, if you are an incumbent committees bad because people are mad, and they want this thing to get solved and go away, but desantis in particular, to some extent abbott, is leading with his chin into the meat, grinder the polling shows, among independents, he's only holding on to republicans,
