supervisor safai, are you here? >> supervisor safai: yes, sorry. good morning, everyone.nks for the opportunity, chair, to hear this morning. i want to thank you, vice chair stefani and supervisor haney, for having me today at this committee hearing. this conversation really accelerated about side shows during the middle of covid. we saw a major uptick in this. so much so that we had a very unfortunate incident in my district around labor day of last year, where one person was killed, two people were injured through gun violence, just to pick up on some of the previous conversation around gun violence. and it's something that we reached out to the police department, worked with chief scott, and came up with a new piece of legislation that is the basis for this conversation today. to get to see how effective that legislation is. in a nutshell, that legislation basically said building off state law to seize vehicles and cite people that were aiding and abetting, basically blocking intersections to allow this activity to be performed. it is something that i think we can all

supervisor safai? >> supervisor safai: thank you, mr. president. i would just like to say, it sounded like from the city attorney, that current being the operative word is what gets us into disbarment. we can get into further discussion in closed session. actually, this was on my radar, as well. i don't feel comfortable, given the circumstances. it seems as though the fines that were being repaid are simply just the contracts that were awarded illegally, and they're just being reimbursed back to the city, so it seems as though at the end of the day, the taxpayers -- it's a zero sum. they're just getting the money that was awarded illegally. it doesn't seem there were additional fines or penalties paid, and then, the further disbarment. i want to know, is that the individual, is that the individual's l.l.c.s and companies because an l.l.c. will outlive an individual. i think those are appropriate conversations to have in closed session, and i am absolutely in favor of continuing this item and have a closed session so we can more justly resolve this
