state superintendent of public instruction tony thurmond is launching a new statewide literacy campaignis morning and he says it will help to improve literacy rates of california students. specifically thurman says the literacy campaign will help all third grade students to be able to read by the year 2026. it is a long been held as a critical milestone for every student to learn to read by third grade yet for some reason, and for many reasons, this particular milestone has eluded many of our students. term it's playing centers on legislation that will provide funding to hire more teachers and establish a task force to oversee and guide the literacy campaign. he says the plan will also get more books into the hands of help them develop a love for reading. for the first time ever, marin county is taking out large newspaper ads to recruit new school crossing guards. this comes in response to a crossing guard shortage. the county's transportation agency says it usually has 120 guards. but right now it's 20 short of what it needs. these part time jobs that pay $15.40 an hour in marin county
