they include the areas of foster city. tim johns includes -- joins our team covers tonight. he is in the marina district. what does it look like out there? >> electricity -- the electricity that you mentioned is just one part of it. this entire street here is just starting to be reopened. it was closed for several hours because of flooding. it was too dangerous to drive down. officials say that is because the sewage and the drainage pipes could not keep up with the amount of water they were receiving and the tops were coming off and flooding the entire street. authorities have been sorting this out and the street is about to reopen in just a few minutes time. beyond the flooding, another issue is the debris. there is a video to take a look at. that is all over the city. firefighters say they have been responded to hundreds of calls. this shot is from the forest hills neighborhood of san francisco where five homes had to be evacuated as a result of a linning tree. those people were let back into residences after authorities deemed it to be safe. this is why they are urging ev

foster city, 56,000 customers have been without electricity for hours. pockets of scattered outages, this is the latest update last night. they have restored power to 143,000 customers. to the north bay where some streets are under a foot of water. it is caused by flash flooding and swelling creeks. we want to join stephanie sierra. good morning. stephanie: good morning. the rain is coming down. just in the last five minutes, it is pouring downtown. you can see it's looking more like rapids. there are no downed trees on the side of the creek. there is a lot of debris clogging parts of the creek. public works crews struggled preventing the flooding. meantime, some of the streets were under two feet of water it yesterday. cars were struggling to cross intersection. this was taken along 3rd street and lincoln avenue. we spoke to andrew, who was helping his neighbors evacuate as flash flooding threatened homes. >> go to higher ground. right there. all that property is 30 feet above sea level. it's not a big planet. it was a good enough plan. stephanie: he sa

we went to a farmers market today in foster city where regular vendors and shoppers told us that more people have started to show up over the past couple of weeks. most of them wearing masks but that is about the only thing that differentiated this farmers market from anytime before the pandemic. we went to berkeley, the lawrence hall of science reopened today, they were closed for 19 months and we saw kids smiling and learning, having the special learning moments, totally normal for an afternoon in the science museum. >> it has been busy, more people are showing up. >> it feels like life is coming back to normal. >> deftly getting back to normal and seeing the kids running around and playing in the exhibits is a big part of that. >> reporter: we met a couple who took their grandson to check out the science museum and they were so happy it is open again. they made the most of a normal afternoon together. back out here live in the castro, obviously, while it may feel different, it may feel as close to normal as we have since the pandemic started, and we still are in a pandemic. while t
