meteorologist, kari hall, has been monitoring that, and kari, it's looking better when it comes to thefog this morning. >> yeah, it's still bad in parts of the north bay where the sky is clearing and we are seeing the fog settle in. visibility down to half a mile or less depending on where you are, and we are seeing it clearing in some spots that had fog yesterday. take a look at our fremont camera, and we will see clouds over the next few hours. temperatures in the mid-50s, and a slow warm-up today. overall it's going to be a nice afternoon as we look at our temperatures headed for the mid and upper 60s. we will see cooler weather in like this for the next few days. >>> from emeryville we can see the span itself here. noticing over on the san francisco side from time to time in the last few minutes, i have not been able to see the flashing lights at the top of the towers, and we are watching for fog to develop, and yesterday it got really thick by 6:00, and right now it's novato and north where kari's readings have been showing that. same thing, portions in contra costa county, but so

we want to bring in meteorologist, kari hall, right now. rain do we need to get out of the drought right here. >> you can see how big it is. the drought gives you a picture of what is going on across the region. these small rainfalls are good, but they are not going to erase years for the huge deficits of the rainfall. still, it's historic here when we take a look at how much rain we need. let's take a look at the big buckets here. this is san josÉ. the last few years we had seven inches of rain, but normal is about 13 1/2. the next year we had five inches of rain, and still not close to that 13 1/2. last year, only two inches of rain. so when you add all of this up we need about 14 inches of rain each year to really go above and beyond and help out with the drought. once again, it shows that this is a drop in the bucket and these buckets are humongous. >> yeah, we need a lot of rain but not at one time. >> right. >>> let's go to mike right now, because, of course, people driving on the roads are experiencing the wet roads right now. >> yea

i want to bring in meteorologist, kari hall.how much rain we will need to get us all of the drought here in this era? >> it's not just the bay area. this is across the west and what we are calling a mega drought where you have these conditions for a span of 20 years. >> wow. >> the rainfall that we have seen is good, but it's a small drop in the bigger bucket and some of the worst of the drought from napa to solano and over towards alameda ask contra costaa county, and in 2019, there were several inches. the next year we measured five inches. but normal, once again, 13 1/2. last year was really bad. we only measured two inches but the normal amount is 13 1/2, so we need at least maybe even 150% of the normal rainfall year after year to dig us out of the drought. we are seeing conditions like this in san francisco, and last year they measured 7 1/2, and that's nothing compared to the 22.89 inches they normally get. all of this is good, but we need this for several months and then years on end to dig us out of this major drought t

still so far no problems from chp. >>> kari, no major problems?guess that's to develop over the day, right? >> yeah, once you get over the altamont it clears up. for the north bay we have had the dense fog problems, right now down to quarter of a mile. be careful on your way to work. in oakland, we will start off with clouds and temperatures in the low 50s. much more sunshine today as we will see our highs reaching into the upper 60s, reaching 67 in los gatos, east san josÉ up to a high of 69 degrees. more of the same for morgan hill and gilroy. for the east bay we are seeing mid to upper 60s. danville headed towards 68 degrees. 64 in san mateo. for san francisco we have upper 50s in the marina district to the outer sunset. north bay highs reaching up in the 60s for santa rosa and ukiah. that's where the sun will clear more quickly, and then another chance of showers thursday into friday morning. for the weekend it's looking dry and with a gusty wind that could be blowing offshore. we will watch that for the weekend. as we get a look at our estima

kari hall, tracking the rain back our way?>> nice to see we will see decent storms coming in here and then we will take a break. we will be tracking this storm with storm ranger. the red scanner seeing there, it's going to give us a detailed view of what's coming in and also how heavy that rain is falling. might have spotty light sprinkles possible, and then we will see the break in the clouds right there and then here's the storm that will be moving in, pushing first into parts of the north bay and the coastal areas later this evening. at about 4:30 we will see lighter showers out on the leading edge of this moving in and then continuing to spread across the bay area, with the peak of the storm around 10:00 to 11:00 in parts of the east bay, and moving down to the south bay later on this evening. after that, we're looking at off and on showers through tomorrow morning, and then tapering off for tomorrow afternoon. by tomorrow afternoon, we will be clear. we're looking at rainfall totals anywhere from 2 to 4 inches with higher

kari hall has a look at the forecast. a great way to start off the holiday weekend. >> there's a lot of people out there on the roads. i was also noticing what mike was talking about with the jam up of the cars. let's talk about the flights across the country because there are a lot of people also heading in or heading out and going through some of these major airports where now we don't see any delays across the region. it's overall a fairly quiet weather pattern. we're seeing that right now as our temperatures started out cool this morning. we're headed for the mid-60s. we'll stay here for the next several hours. breezy wind. you've probably noticed that if you've been out later this morning into the afternoon. that will continue. for some of our top destinations around the bay area, san francisco will continue to see temperatures in the low to mid-60s over the next few days and thanksgiving is looking nice in oakland as well as santa rosa. we'll talk more about what's ahead and even looking into the weekend. that's com

kari has a look at the forecast for today.ntral valley, with all the precipitation we had, the fog is coming back. >> yeah, we have seen it creeping into the delta and east bay and now the north bay. there's low visibility as we take a look at this friday morning. zero in novato, so be careful on your way to work. walnut creek, it's also foggy there and temperatures in the upper 40s. the fog lingers for the next couple of hours. the rest of the day it quickly clears out and we will see sunshine as our temperatures head for the low 70s, reaching 73 degrees in san josÉ as well as cupertino and milpitas reaching 70 degrees. for the east bay, livermore will reach a high of 73 there and 71 in hayward. so comfortable this afternoon. make plans to spend more time outside with some upper 60s in the mission district, engel side reaching 65 degrees, and mill valley area 65 there and 75 in clearlake. we're missing out on the rain, but seattle and portland, it's pouring there. this is where the atmospheric river is targeting that area and

the chances of rain, are they dwindling now, kari?>> we will see more chances friday, and we are seeing possibly the same situation later this week, but we are seeing the sky clearing and where the sky is clear dense fog is settling in, especially in the north bay, visibility about half a mile. light patchy fog is drifting around parts of the east bay. later today we will see sunshine and cooler temperatures now that the system has passed and we will see sunshine for a lot more spots later on today. >>> mike, you are seeing a problem in the caldicot tunnel? >> yeah, not fog on the roadway but a ladder in the tunnel, and it's number 3, we are looking at a ladder in lanes and there could be a quick traffic break. we do have the volume building out of the contra costa county. in walnut creek, a slowdown for south 680, there could be two or at least one crash there getting to the shoulder, so slow volume builds from highway 4. anywhere south of oakland is looking great. back to you. >> hey, this is great, too. a look at times square where

meteorologist, kari hall, has that look at the forecast. how does it look, kari? >> it looks good. may encounter foggy spots as you drive to work, but the airport sensors are showing clear visibility but there's fog in between, so watch out for that. we will see the temperatures stay in the upper 50s to about 10:00, and then eventually we will make it in the upper 60s today. up to 67 in livermore. napa headed towards 68 degrees. nice in oakland again today reaching 66 degrees, and 67 in palo alto. not a lot of change ahead. we'll talk about that. >>> mike, you are checking in on the berkeley curb? >> yeah, it's called the berkeley curb, because it's where? in emeriville. yeah, berkeley is not involved, but there's no issues with slowing. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have seen fog registering in parts of the north bay, petaluma and fairfield for i-80, but not a major concern for drivers. there's an easier build. there you go, right on time. a little bit of slowing from northbound 101 to oakland road off of 680. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >>> the impact from california wildfir

kari has a look at the forecast. a cold start to our morning, kari? >> yeah, it's cold.in other areas, they are dealing with dense fog. we are starting out with a clear morning and soon we will see the sun coming over the hills. yeah, very chilly. only 26 degrees. we will warm up with a lot of sunshine by late morning into the afternoon, but we are just headed for the upper 60s for today. expect a high of 65 in antioch, and in the north bay where that fog hangs on a lot longer. we're looking at low 60s in some spots. we're also getting ready for some rain. we will talk about the timeline of that in a few minutes. >>> mike being it's looking calmer out in oakland? >> yeah, talking about the bay bridge where things have calmed down as far as the backup. the pace of the backup was getting hectic here, quickly filling in the back parking lot and then slowly filling in the rest. there has not been a big volume coming down, so the initial metering lights traffic slowing down. highway 4, pittsburg in towards concord, there's lighter traffic. everything else is clear. mild slowi

meteorologist, kari hall, has a look at the weather. kari, how is it looking? >> pretty good. water year rain update. the water year resets october 1st, and since then we have gotten over 13 1/2 inches of rain in santa rosa. about five inches for concord and san josÉ getting about 2 1/4 inches of rain. we do get the update of the drought monitor tomorrow, but still we know that we are in an extreme to an exceptional drought and it's still severe for parts of the sierra. looking here at home, we are seeing the dark red and we are talking about even though we have gotten rain, we need years, and i mean years of above normal rain. this is the worst drought we have seen in about 50 years, happening right now. as we head out on this wednesday morning, we are seeing light and patchy fog in some spots. looks like it's evading a lot of the airport sensors, but we are seeing some dense fog in some spots as you are heading out for work. watch out for that. once it clears up, we're heading for a nice day. 66 will be the high for free mopped. 65 in san mateo. san francisco in the low to m

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking this. when can we expect to see some of the rain move in our way? >> we're expecting much of that rain to move in later this evening but we have powered up storm ranger in advance of this system that will be passing by. we can already see light sploches of green coming from the low mist and drizzle and low clouds. some of the showers already starting to move up around ukiah and further north. sonoma county, lake and mend cito counties could see the rain moving in and the bulk of the system keeping the rain to the north now but the clouds are stretching in and that will be what we'll see throughout today. not a lot of sunshine here. with this system we are expecting the possibility of scattered showers just off and on for the bay area. more measurable rain will be further to the north especially as we head into late this evening and into early tomorrow morning. we are seeing still some very light showers with this. not expecting much but we may have some more rain further in the forecast. we
