kevin goff is known for his off-the-cuff statements that hardly seem like they are or should be made in a court of law. so today it was actually during a break from that testimony you were just watching that outside of the jury, the jury was not in yet kevin goff gets up and says, your honor, i'm really concerned. and then he launches into what is almost loike a kind of legal rant. he was upset he said because he realized the reverend al sharpton had been in the public seating area the day before. it wasn't like he recognized it the day of. this is after the fact. and he was very upset that he thought it could influence the jury. here is the statement. >> we're going to start present starting yesterday we're going to bring high profile members of the african-american community into the courtroom to sit with the family during the trial in the presence of the jury. i believe that is intimidating and an attempt to pressure, could be consciously or unconsciously an attempt to pressure or influence the jury. we don't want anymore black pastors coming in here or other, jesse jackson whoeve

>> reporter: people that follow the case, that's kevin goff who reasons william bryan and this is accordinge prosecution that as the defense rested yesterday, just after that, the attorney went to the prosecution and said i want to make a plea deal for my client. we don't know what that was. we don't know what he was offering. we do know it was rejected by the state. why would wanda cooper jones tell this? it's because the state defense attorneys keep in very close contact with the victim's family. it would suggest that kevin goff has great concerns having heard the state's case and feels rather desperate at this point. we don't know exactly. he denied it going into court today but we'll wait to see. no sooner did that finish than as they were in court today, not in sight of the jury, he got up again and demanded a mistrial. it's about the fifth time he has done that, and he was saying it was due to protests that were o'curing outside of the courthouse yesterday that might have influenced the jury. the state rebutted and said you can not complain about the protests you are the cause for bec

again, this defense attorney, kevin goff, who represents wil willia william bryan, asked for a mistrial because of reverend jesse jackson. the judge didn't grant it yesterday, he's not going to do it today. why are they doing this? is this essentially for an appeal or for people at home? what sense does this make? >> victor, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me at all. strategically i'm not seeing what's going on here. i spent about a decade as a federal criminal defense attorney and this is not the sort of move i would have been making. i think all of the attorneys for all three men are thinking about potential appeal. i don't think we're going to get an acquittal in this case. they are thinking ahead, and perhaps if there is something they can point to about media or bias somehow infiltrating the courtroom, perhaps, that's why he keeps raising this issue. but what i want to remind our viewers is trials are public. there is a sixth amendment right. it's connected to the defendant, but also the public at large, that courtrooms are meant to be for the people. and so this idea somehow tha
