what difference will it make i to the people of okehampton. difference. this - to the people of okehampton. it ii make a big difference. this morning already they were off shopping in exeter, people were on the train. it will definitely help the tourist industry and this is the first reopened line to delve into dartmoor properly, as it were. but we want to see it go further, we want to see other lines reopen. we want the line extended west was to reach plymouth. the only eastwards line at left is the one right on the coast which goes through donnish, which is vulnerable to wave damage and climate change and alternative line seems like a good idea. one caveat is this line costs £40 million to reopen which seems to us to be a huge amount of money considering the track was still there and the track bed was intact. we do think network rail should look at these costs. we want to see lots more rail lines reopen but keeping the cost down. why do you think it has cost so much? i why do you think it has cost so much? ., �* ~ ., , why do you think it ha

well, i arrived on okehampton in 1805 and ice of it well, i arrived on okehampton in 1975 and i saw it be open as part of the government's restoring your railway scheme but this week we have seen controversy and anger elsewhere with the scrapping of the hs2 link to leeds and the northern powerhouse line between leeds and manchester. the restoration of the dartmoor line was made easier by the fact that after closing to passenger services it continued to be used in transporting railway ballast from a nearby quarry. it also ran as a heritage railway but now it has been upgraded. it is not as easy as you think. it hasn't been in good condition- but there is a huge amount of work. we have done 11 miles of track. insulation in the past four weeks. it has actually been one - of the fastest track installations in network rail history. this is the new track construction machine, an impressive piece of kit, around a quarter a mile long. you can see what is happening is a grade on top one is back, grab the sleepers, brings it to the front of the train and then lays them in a perfectly straight li
