sununu has been elected governor in the last three elections held every two years there and his brother was elected senator and his father was elected governor in the 1980's. maggie hassen was elected governor in 2012 and 2014. so the fact she's behind in some surveys now is not a good sign for the democrats. it indicates to me that you're looking at a seriously contested race from two candidates who are well known and may have had positive impressions over the years. but not clear which one will do so. so i think that we've got a very indeterminate outcome here and we know small margins for multiple candidates can give one party or another a much bigger advantage in the senate than almost anyone expected. remember when the republicans gained 12 seats in 1980 and won a majority in the senate? you had a lot of astonished faces in washington. and when those seats came up six years later and despite president reagan's positive job rating, democrats gained 78 of those seats and used their majorities to harass reagan on iran-contra and pushed his successor george h.w. bush to break his "read
