joining us now is representative zoe lofgren, democrat of california and a member of the january 6th committee. congresswoman, thank you so much for joining us this evening. i want to ask you about these weeks of hearings that your committee is planning for next year. first, is it true that that's the plan? what can you tell us about that, and can you give us any sense of what these public hearings will be about and who some of the witnesses might be? >> not at this point. what we want to do is to gather a comprehensive set of all the facts we can find that tell the complete story about the events leading up to the january 6th event and tell that in a way that is credible, that's true, and understandable. that involves a series of hearings with witnesses to tell the story of what happened, and i think it's very important. if we just do an investigation, write a book, and put it on a shelf, we will not have accomplished our goal of having the american public have the opportunity to really tune in to what happened, fully understand it so that we can make sure that nothing like this eve

we are joined by a member of the select committee, zoe lofgren.uing that it outweighs trump's requests for executive privilege and confidentiality and all that. can you lay out the case and what are you hoping that the court will listen to at the end of the day? >> well, first, the court doesn't need to take this case up at all. the trial court and the appellate court basically said that the former president had no case. the claim of executive privilege was not found to be valid since the current president, president biden, has waived it as to these records. as the appellate court noted in order to get injunctive relief, you need to show a likelihood you'll prevail at trial and the former president didn't try to do that. he just -- he just said he wanted to win but made no showing as to irrepable harm. it's worth noting, as of today, a whole series of former ronald reagan, george w. bush white house lawyers and justice department officials filed what's called an amicus brief saying that congress should prevail in this and that basically the presid

member zoe lofgren indicated he did so yesterday and today we got the letter for the chair saying to meadow's attorney who details some of those communications he did hand of with the committee. those include a series of text messages on january 6th with a member of congress. the letter says about appointing alternate electors in certain states as a part of the plan as a member ac nonld would be highly controversial in which mr. meadows apparently said, quote, i love it. he also sent tech moonls to the head of the organizer on the rally of the ellipse. so these are really perhaps damming information that meadows has provided to the committee. now meadows says she not no longer going to cooperate. he did not show up for his scheduled deposition today and that is what prompted benny thompson to send that letter to meadow's attorney saying they will move forward with this criminal contempt referral charges they will send to the department of justice. so they could move as early as this week. we're waiting to hear on a specific time line for that but there could be ram identifications fo
