as the ceo of the boys and girls club of pasadena, and i brought barbara from pasadena. a neighbor. i am blessed each day to continue the same work changing the trajectory of kids lives, really helping them to find adult mentors. ways to combat peer pressure, academic success, all of those things that we know that make a difference for kids. that really began for me with mrs. reagan. i was about to say -- so many years ago. she was known for saying quite often, if we can help even just one child avoid the ravages of drug use, it is all worth it. while a lot of our work was pretty serious and we were all over the country and sometimes the world, but all over the country working with groups that were helping to prevent drug abuse, we also had fun. not only just her dancing in the apartment in new york, but we had a lot of joy, a lot of fun. there was a lot of joy working with her. one of the greatest rewards for me and for many others was to hear her laugh. in my mind, i can hear that giggle. it kind of started low because she had a low voice. it went higher. there she was
