[laughter] nobody could read this map. right? black lines means that s where the logging s going to happen, but black lines are the roads and everything else. so most people simply threw it out. but google earth had just come out, and i m a nerd, and i m a mapping nerd, and i said, i wonder if i remap this, if i study this plan and remapped it in the full 3d satellite imagery of this new google earth, could we understand what was at stake? maybe it was nothing to worry about, or maybe it was. let s find out, so over that weekend, i brought in the data. right? you could make 3d models of a helicopter hauling logs, because they were going to be doing that, hauling logs over the daycare center and the nursery school. we--i showed it at a community meeting, and people were horrified, because now you could really see it was going to be 1,000 a

the santa cruz mountains blocking some of the rain from making its way into the santa clara valley. to 8 degrees. only upper 50s along the coast. upper 60s and low 70s with mid- to upper 70s in the shadow of the santa cruz mountains in santa clara valley. 78 degrees around morgan hill. temperatures should reach the upper 70s in the shadow of mount diablo as well. farther inland in the east bay the warm spots but still below 80 degrees. temperature in san francisco struggles up to around 60 degrees. mid-60s for oakland in the east bay with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s for most of the north bay. spots along the coast struggle to near 60 degrees. maybe up to the mid-70s for napa. same thing farther north in northern sonoma and napa county as well. temperatures very similar saturday and sunday. not much change day to day as we head through the weekend. the one change will be that chance of rain shower saturday night into sunday. again, in san jose, don't get your hopes up in the way of measurable rain. a few sprinkles enough to wet down the roads a little while. once that s

aside from some misty drizzly spots near the coast in the santa cruz mountains, especially that's the way this forecast is going to stay. here's some good news. the forecast is not going to stay so hot as it has been. today is yet again another day that's going to bring those really scorching hot 90's to our inland areas. we've been that way for over a week now for those inland spots, coastal areas and bayside areas tapped into that cool air. that's we've had a relief tomorrow is the last day with 90's in this forecast. and as we round out june and kick off july on friday, we're going to be doing so with temperatures well below average for this time of year. so get through these next scorching hot days. and we do have some really nice weather to look forward to especially come the weekend. as for today at 60's for san francisco and at the coastline, bayshore cities will mostly be in the 70's to the 80's, although we do have some 90's mixed in in woodside as well as down towards saratoga, los gatos and morgan hill, san jose. you'll be a 85 today. low 80's from fremont to hayward and 90

we are tracking two fires a small brush fire in the santa cruz mountains. that is being dubbed the rock fire and a larger one that burned a home down in contra costa county. that one is the ranch fire. that one started on alamo ranch road and stone valley way in alamo. firefighters look to wrap this up tonight but first let's go to nbc bay area stephanie magallon, with an entire neighborhood that is on edge. stephanie? >> reporter: so i am told that the fire is now under control. however, at one point, fire crews did say that at least four homes did come close to catching on fire because of how quickly this was spreading in different directions. the fire chief did say that the fire ended up starting as a structure fire over on alamo ranch road around 330 this afternoon. but as soon as they arrived on scene, the flames had extended to the vegetation in an area with really steep terrain. that is when they called for backup. and police evacuated the surrounding neighborhood. but after two hours, the fire chief says that they were able to control the structure

sprinkles, closer to the santa cruz mountains. 75 degrees. let's talk about humidity.s map is color-coded. the green is 60% humidity and higher. that is not all unusual, given that we live near the bay and pacific ocean. what is different is that we are seeing high humidity numbers . with temperatures in the mid- 70s to near 80 degrees inland. that is that subtropical air that we are talking about, which brought up rain totals in the north bay mountains, with a lot of humidity as we head into monday. we are seeing the moist air is forced to climb up and over the mountains and that brings out light rain. we will probably see that into tomorrow morning, as the north bay dries out, first. for south bay in a lump along the peninsula, you might still find some rain. 8:00 in the morning, the wind will shift west, northwest, which banks the clouds up to the areas in south san jose, and saratoga. you might notice that drizzle and sunlight, misty skies for the morning, and then they clear up, into the afternoon. we finally have less humidity tomorrow. the morning will start wit

we saw that just a few years ago with the fires of course across the santa cruz mountains. so, i wanted to go ahead and get right to the radar. what we are dealing with, you know, we were out earlier today and we had wall-to-wall sunshine. then, there comes the cloud coverage. also the humidity beginning to increase. it is from the system to the south of us and basically the counterclockwise circulation around us is helping to pull up the instability. you can see the lightning struck silver central and southern california. also streaming on the humidity as i just talked about the weekend you in closer to the radar view and chest within the past 10 minutes, now we see a new area beginning to develop. you can see numerous lightning strikes. this is moving off to the north . at last check it has been producing about 26 lightning strikes. luckily there is some rainfall with this. that would help tempt down some of the fire thread. of course we are so drive from the drought. when it comes to the bay area, this is still about 57 miles away. by nature, the way thunderstorms work i

san francisco as you can see behind me clearing sky, still seeing a few sprinkle, along the santa cruz mountains. the clouds start to clear out across marin county, you can see right there in san francisco, you see the clearing and looking back at the headlands, dealing with the moisture across the peninsula and the south bay some sprinkles and light showers still possible until sundown tonight. look how quickly skies clear tomorrow, that will push the humidity out. less muggy for monday and short- term, seeing the temperatures climbing again, less humidity and warming temperatures, 90 possible midweek. get ready for some cooler and windy changes by the end of the week and we might see another chance of showers in june. we will look at that coming up in 15 minutes. >>> three people are dead in san jose after what police believe was a domestic repeat dispute turned deadly. on crescent village apartments. police say it started in the parking lot. they found that a man and a woman were in a domestic dispute in the parking lot. a man attempted to intervene and the suspect shot him and shot the woman

but that advisory, in effect for heat in and around the bay, the santa clara valley into the santa cruz mountains, the east bay in the livermore and danville, concord in orinda and extending all the way into the north bay and excessive heat warnings continuing in solano county. so the hot temperatures going to stick around. that's going to take some time for it to cool down. and even tomorrow we're going to cool things off that instead of hot triple digit still talking some 90's. and so those temperatures well above the average for this time of year. but you can see some hope is on the way. as you can see, a strong cold front off the coastline that will eventually begin to push that ridge of high pressure a little further to the east. so that said temperature wise 70's in a san francisco for tomorrow, 60's up a little patchy fog out toward the coastline. if you're headed there to beat the heat, 70's just inside the bay looking about 78 degrees in san carlos. 84 degrees in mount view said a hot 90's and much of the south they were dealing with 80's tomorrow instead of triple digits for dealing wit

one of which is in the santa cruz mountains. this is the vista fire. but the crews are working on.aking sure it doesn't get any bigger. a larger fire in sonoma. this is the robler fire. this one has grown to about 15 acres for the last um date. and seems so to be growing faster. you could see the smoke plume being blown along as well. keep a close eye on that. and i think they're requesting air assets to get a handle on that fire. >>> changes later on this weekend. that is with cooler temperatures in store by the end of the week as this storm system makes its way closer to the coast. it is going to push the area of high pressure that has been controlling our weather out of the way which means cooler weather for inland parts of the bay area. but not yet tomorrow. we do have that follow hanging out along the coast. some of tried to peak through the golden gate but now just hanging out along the coast and it will spread inland toward early tomorrow morning. reduced visible around the bay but not too far into the inland valley. it will back up quickly and should see unobstructed visibi

that cloud cover in south bay, you can see that, organ hill, and the santa cruz mountains.t band is now passing out of the south bay, taking all that moisture away from the bay area, tomorrow. the humidity comes to toward the morning. clear skies for monday, and things will warm up next week. we will get a cooler start to the morning, with dryer air, mid-50s. it is not as muggy, and around lunchtime, low 70s. san jose and san francisco will get to low 70s. oakland will high 70s, and we should see 80s on monday, going into the upper 80s and low 90s by tuesday, as we see the warmest day of the week, when day. that could put temperatures back up to mid-90s, 86 in san jose, 70 for san francisco, and close to 80 in oakland. thursday's temperatures come down. the wind is picking up. our weather system will be offshore, which, is pretty impressive. you can see the curl of clouds off the pacific northwest coast. it will be a lot of rain for oregon and western washington. friday, we see clouds passing through. don't be surprised, we might see something around here, on the north coas

we had a couple fires today, one in the santa cruz mountains. >> every day. >> a couple in the north bay, one of which closed down a lane on 101 for a little while. it's this type of weather pattern where it's hot inland and those are conducive conditions even without really gusty winds for a fire to get started. that latest fire on the east side of 101 in marin county has now run into marshland, but some of the smoke as drifted away. let's take a look at the big picture pattern. some changes on the horizon. the hot weather inland is about to change as high pressure in the upper levels of the sm atmosphere is going to shift away from us. the marine layer is going to be allowed to expand vertically, spread farther inland, and the storm system moving towards the pacific northwest is going to kick in a stronger onshore breeze. it's going to be gradual changes, but it is going to happen over the course of the next several days. right now, it is still warm to hot inland. 88 in concord. 91 degrees in livermore. 77 in san jose and santa rosa. 60s around the bay. the fog is hanging out along

the cloud cover isn't going to be as thick and the santa cruz mountains are going to block some of thatarine influence. upper 70s inland in the santa clara valley. mostly low to mid-70s to the south end of the bay with low 60s along the coast. temperatures inland in the east bay. mostly in the mid-70s. the very warmest spots far inland close to 80 degrees. 80 degrees for a warm spot across the entire bay area in june. isn't that warm? temperatures reach the low 60s in san francisco. mid- to upper 60s for oakland and the east bay with upper 60s for the north bay as well. thicker clouds there. not quite as mild as other areas inland bay area. and temperatures farther inland aren't going toby all that warm either. similar temperatures on sunday with that chance of rain showers. best chance from the golden gate north ward along the coast. every day next week brings an increase in temperatures. up to near 70 in san francisco by friday. close to 80 in oakland by the end of the next workweek. 90 in san jose and well into the 90s for inland parts of the east bay and north bay thursday and frida
