douglas is here with us, the former director of the cbo. what do you make of this?ainly is driving down mortgage rates. what do you think? >> well, i think the backdrop here is the federal reserve almost certainly has to lean on the housing market. a, because it's a big part of the inflation problem. 5.7% in shelter. that's a third of the consumer price index. b, the tools that hit houses. they're also switching from buying about $30 billion a month on mortgage backed securities to selling off. that's a big swing in the amount of government capital getting injected into this market. having done that, rates jumped up as you said and they shut down to refinance market. it's gone. the purchase market is gone about 15%. we've seen mortgage interest rateses come off a little bit. the reality is, they will continue to raise rates until they slow down the rate of inflation and housing and the building of housing and the slow down of the economy as a whole. so this little respite probably doesn't mean a big change in the big picture. >> neil: what is interesting though, the

we had a cbo, forget not a some, some groups acting like authentic my peers read now with you don't get to women children and to have that moment to where you can talk about you and talk about changing the world from one breath to another, not the so time before we got here and now if i like the mayor. right. so the question is the big question are you out for it now? okay. ah. 2 the big private equity it has taken me some time to ask the question, where are they getting their money from? ah, pension funds have a huge amount of money and they need to grow in order to make sure that the people who pay in to the pension fund have something to live on their working lives. i mission to south korea was grand. well, before i had this one piece of information, but some of the largest pension funds are right here at the national pension service, is the 3rd largest pension plan in the world. it was one of the poorest countries. and now in the 11th largest economy in the world, in 50 years, that's pretty impressive. but of course, to make that happen in a 50 year period required a kind of brutal

already kind of broke given where we are in terms of saying if things continue the way they are, but the cbo is projecting increases in medicare, medicaid, obamacare, and this employer-based subsidy as a share of gdp going forward, which will make us further broke. so we have to have a president and congress that starts addressing more than who won the last election, which is quite obvious. we have to start talking about our real problems. and our real problem is making sure our kids are not bankrupt, bankrupted by what we are doing here. not everybody is covered. our real problem is we have a vulcanized system put together idiotically for reasons that had nothing to do with -- for racist reasons and other reasons. the union was trying to cover its own skin in the game. we have to discuss where we are, where we are going, why we cannot start from scratch, and why the brooklyn bridge cannot have this part built by these southern democrats and this part built by northern minnesota republicans, neither of which have engineering degrees. host: two just joining us to talk about the legislation th
