thank you tonight, cal fire battling what it calls an explosive wildfire in the sierra foothills. the so called oak fire is burning out of control tonight in mariposa county, near the community of mid pounds. this fire started around two this afternoon. officially it's at 1600 acres and growing, but some estimate that number is already much higher. people in that area were forced to leave their homes immediately. mandatory evacuation orders are now in effect for thousands of people living in mid pines, jersey, dale and other towns along highway 1 40. cal fire says it's likely that some buildings have already burned in this fire, but a spokesman we talked to tonight couldn't confirm any specific numbers. fires throwing embers out considerable distance starting new spot fires. um has been difficult for firefighters. those can be challenging when the fires throw out those embers ahead of the main fire. so uh, it's just been pretty extreme fire behavior and our crews are out there working diligently to try to get this fire wrapped up even individuals that are watching in the barrier.

tonight we're following a developing story out of the sierra foothills. a new wildfire called the winding fire is burning northeast of yuba city, right near the community of organ house. some people near collins lake are being asked to evacuate. so far, at least 60 acres have burned no containment, and the cause of that fire is not yet known. firefighters say they have saved all structures that were threatened earlier today by a vegetation fire in brentwood. the fire started this afternoon near deer valley road and marsh creek road, 14. acres burned. investigators have not said anything about what caused the fire, and firefighters in pittsburgh say they have stopped forward progress of a brush fire their crews with the contra costa county fire protection district say in aggressive initial attack helped establish a line around the fire. that fire broke out near alta vista circle and old golf course. 39 acres burned. we have no reports so far of any damage to the structures, and there's no word yet on what started that fire and another fire in pittsburgh wi
