. >>> time now for the weather once again, cheryl scott from our abc station wls in chicago. yl. >> it's so good to be here, we're looking beautiful in the northeast, but we want to start you with a sunday science experiment, why flooding has been such a huge problem. three cups full of water flipped over, that wet water, continuing to go down. after the heat wave, the dry, hot soil, that water barely moving, that water can't absorb into the soil. when that heavy rain comes down so hard and so fast it turns into runoff and flash flooding. you can see the drought monitor, so many locations across the south and west are dealing with extreme to exceptional drought, which takes us to the coast here, the deep south, texas, the area of low pressure, continue to turn that moisture and heavy rain over the next 24 hours. some cities close to corpus christi, you're going to see four to >>> so hot and dry weather out to the south and west, monsoon moisture though allowing for some flooding. here in the northeast, cooler and beautiful. >> cheryl, that science experiment that we just learn

. >> let's go back to cheryl scott from wls tracking it all for us. >> the monsoon rains are not lettingp, into the day and tomorrow. feeding the moisture across the deep south. you can see the heavy rain coming down. this is a familiar scene that will continue to happen over the next 48 hours. that video from arizona where the water just turning those roadways into rivers. and notice what happens. here's a school bus that was bascally swept off the side of the road. thankfully everyone inside was safe, as crews rescued them.pwe arizona and new mexico. flash flood warnings likely to be issued this weekend, as well. we're looking at slow-moving and heavy, intense rains that will allow for the flash flooding. but this flooding rain, it will combine with tropical moisture. this will impact the deep south to texas, and the rain shifting east as we go into the weekend. dallas, texas, you've been so dry. you're looking at 5 to 7-plus inches of rainfall over the next seven days. flooding to flash flooding will be a big threat in the coming days. we also have an update in the tropics, potential

. >>> let's get right to meteorologist cheryl scott from our chicago station wls. how long do you expect this rain will last? >> yes, linsey, this is not going to be a quick-hitting system. we're looking at several rounds of rain in the same locations for the next 24 to 48 hours and this rain will be lingering in the deep south for a day. you can see the flood watch here for parts of texas into oklahoma. that's where we have the flood watches in place stretching into louisiana. if this rain comes down too heavy too fast flooding and flash flooding will be a problem here. you could see parts of texas there, exceptional drought. that's the concern. the flooding and the flash flooding. and also keeping an eye on the northeast and new england because we have drought in some of these locations. providence, up to boston, even new york and new jersey, moderate to severe, even extreme drought. we are looking at rain in the coming days, the next 24 to 48 hours, 1 to 3 inches. this will be a welcome rain across the northeast. linsey? >> from one extreme to another. cheryl, t

meteorologist cheryl scott from our chicago station wls joins us now. cheryl, time this tropical threat out for us. >> reporter: we're now looking at an 80% chance this tropical disturbance forms and develops into a named storm. let's take it to the maps. you can see the storm rapidly developing in the gulf. it's going to quickly move up to the north and west. tropical storm warnings for the coast of texas and also mexico. expected to make landfall into the day tomorrow. this moisture is going to feed into the desert southwest where we have flood watches from arizona into new mexico. slow-moving thunderstorms, flooding rains where we're looking at potentially two to three-plus inches. then all of this rain shifts to the east, where drought-stricken texas could see 5 to 7-plus inches of rain. the flash flooding threat great. linsey? >> we need some of that rain in the northeast. sheryl, thank you. >>> now to the intriguing remark from former vice president mike pence, saying he would consider testifying before the january 6th committee if he was asked. to

cheryl: yeah, maybe choppy waters ahead. scott, what do you say? scott: i'm in the camp that i don't think the s&p will make new highs on the year, but i would be very careful. there's been a lot of people fighting this move for the past week and a half and they're in what you call a pain trade, where they're shorting things where you think this is a bear market bounce and sometimes that can take things further. tough be very careful trying to be cute here to fade the market and short it thinking that we're getting close to the end here because, you know, of the calendar and just, you know, where we are in the overall tape. it's a precarious spot and traders and individuals and kenny and i spoke about putting risk on three weeks ago. that was your time when the s&p crossed 3950. up here near 4300, if you were jumping out of your skin in may and june and looking at statements and pnl that you were in pain, this is probably a time to lighten up. all though i'd also not think we'd retest the lows, but you can see them move back to 4,000, 4,050 without
