jerry nadler is from the upper west side.is pretty consistently in new york city elections the highest turnout direction or among the turnout district in the city, more so than the upper east side where carolyn maloney represents. it is a turnout rage. then you have suraj patel hoping to eat into both bases. i think campaigning in a more midtown area where there's slightly younger people, families with young children, but i think, you know, you are going to see potentially the power of just a very, very civically set of neighborhoods on the upper west side. if they come out in full force for jerry nadler, the numbers -- you know, if history repeats itself, will be higher than her base. >> and as we were just discussing with isaac, there is a little bit of an almost generational progressive centrist divide playing out in some of the primaries, but especially in new york's 17th congressional district where you have congressman sean patrick maloney going up against state senator alessandra balaggi. what do you think it tells it?

jerry nadler, upper west side, carolyn maloney, upper east side, jerry nadler, up by 24,000 votes, with 96% reporting. everybody who keeps an eye on siraj patel, as well, talking about generational change, and the potential to shake things up in this race. he's just under 20% right now. i would know, to challenge carolyn maloney twice before in the primaries, and only lost by a couple thousand votes last cycle. so, he took some votes, clearly, from her, in this case. if you add it all of his votes to carolyn maloney's, jerry nadler, still, in a good place. he will continue on, maloney's career, at least in the house, will end, come next congress. there's also another race we call, don that, have been keeping a close eye on. there's a myriad of races since those maps were thrown out, since the democrats dreams of a very democratic center primary were, essentially, tossed out with them. that starts right here, as you noted the top of the show. patrick maloney, and the democratic chairman, progression of chairman of the committee, with the top democrat when it comes to house campaigns the

he's presented both nadler and maloney as relics., a bit of a long shot, but he's trying. >> you're on "the new york times" editorial board, which endorsed nadler in this race. but it's so interesting. you have two political titans and then as somebody that lives in new york, you have this challenger who i feel like every time i turnen of the tv, he has an ad running. >> give us the lay of the land. >> this is expected to be a low-turnout election. i think the voters have been given no favor in that. the thing that's really strange is that these three candidates are actually competing for a very similar set of voters, meaning there's very little ideological difference, especially between nadler and maloney. pat else has a lot of new and exciting ideas. we were certainly attracted to that. at theened of the day, jerry nad her in part because of those hard votes he's taken over the years against the iraq war, but also because of the issues he continues to work on as chairman of the judiciary committee that are important to new york vot

jerry nadler has been in congress for almost 30 years.ney has been in congress for almost 30 years. i think both would like to be seen as the progressive in the race. i think the reality is if you look closely at the records, you will see jerry nadler is someone who really does have a long track record of championing progressive's policies, building a progressive base in new york city. carolyn maloney does not really have that. she voted against the iran deal and has kind of a checkered record on some of these progressive priorities. most importantly, for this race, nadler is the chair of the house judiciary committee and has done really excellent work on antitrust legislation and taking on big tech and afforded some of these policies that are high priority for the party this moment. carolyn maloney as they had of the house oversight committee, which has been notoriously weak in committee in congress. one tasked with obtaining president trump's tax returns. that committee is not very effective. if you're comparing the two of them, never h

maloney is still trying to get out the votes, and nadler's folks are saying he feels good. schedule unlike in recent days where he's been laying low. the bottom line is this is an odd time to have a primary, and a lot of analysts you talk to say it's absentee voters. people are out of town. if they're in taupe, they may not be paying attention. whatever campaign has done a better job of reaching their voters, making sure if they're out of town, they cast their ballot for them. it's going to come down to turnout, but as you mentioned it has gotten nasty with maloney saying nadler is senile or half dead. he pushed back saying he's just fine, that's ridiculous. he's not going to comment on that, but it's gotten nasty. >> there's another incumbent house democrat in risk of losing a seat, mondaire jones. he faces a crowded progressive field in an entirely new district where his name is not as well known. >> right. this is another result of this messy redistricting process. mondaire jones was elected two years ago to represent a district just north of the city, parts of westchest

not so much of a surprise in terms of what happened here at the 12th where last night here at nadler headquarters they were celebrating after he was the one who ended up out on top, handily beating his long-time colleague in congress for some 30 years carolyn maloney. the two facing off as you said after their district was redrawn. this was a campaign that at times turned ugly, at one point you had carolyn maloney suggesting that nadler was senile. nadler in the end of the day was the one who ended up having the endorsements of people like chuck schumer, elizabeth warren. he had the support the endorsement of the "new york times" as well. he says he was the one who just ran the better campaign. >> i have called congressman nadler to congratulate him on his victory. he is a distinguished member of congress, i share his progressive values and i wish him every success. >> carolyn maloney and i have spent much of our adult lives working together to better both new york and our nation. i speak for everyone in this room tonight when i thank her for her decades of service to our city. >> re

i'm in the upper west side neighborhood of congressman jerry nadler.titution in the house of representatives that has represented this area of new york for many decades now. he is fighting against carolyn maloney whose upper east side district was blended with his. she is the chair of the oversight committee in the house of representatives. only one of these two members of congress are going to advance to the general election. this is a deep blue area. a de facto general election because the democrat who wins here is all but certain to win the general election. the two of them also face a challenge from 38-year-old attorney, surage patel. 1990s democrat, the limited polling shows nadler with an edge, but it's limited and we'll find out later in the hours today who is going to move on to the general election. it's not the only primary in manhattan. that's one in lower manhattan where mondaire jones is trying to hold on facing a serious challenge. he has gotten the back handed endorsement from donald trump in that race, something that he has rejected. ca

[inaudible] they suggested nadler might be pulling ahead. that's what we're seeing in the earlier -- i say, early with this a substantial amount of votes to begin here in the 12th district. -- nadler has advantage -- there is some complicated dynamics in the tenth district. the democratic primary, we talk about manhattan, and a little bit of brooklyn as well. daniel goldman, though. you'll remember, him the lawyer of the former president -- he was in the impeachment proceedings of donald trump. they spent a lot of that money here. and he's -- just over 1000 votes. running in second here. jones listed as the incumbent. he was actually elected to a district -- in the hudson valley, because of all the redistricting in new york. he ended up moving to and running in this district. there are no constituents in this district who jones currently represents. he's listed at the incumbent, but this is an entirely new district for him. he's an entirely new congressman for the constituents in this district. and he's running in third here -- [inaudible] a
