. >> john: across the bay in tampa, the city expected to be a bull's eye for ian, and we kind charles watson. what are residents doing to protect from the wind and water headed their way? >> john, they have taken this very seriously as you guys have been mentioning. they have not seen a storm of this magnitude in the tampa area since 1921, more than 100 years. so, safe to say they are not taking any chances. you can see the folks here at this sandbagging station here in tampa filling up those sandbags to protect their property as hurricane ian approaches the west coast of florida. major concerns of flooding. between 8 and 10 feet of storm surge, a massive wall of water pushed inland on top of 15 inches of rainfall that could be dumped on this area. hillsboro county officials have amended mandatory evacuation order just a few moments ago to include people who live in both zone a and b, additional 90,000 people have to evacuate now. and so far folks seem to be taking it seriously. we have already seen tens of thousands of people decide to get out of here. this morning, governor desantis urging

watson is their lives. he is in islamorada. >> this forecast has ian shifting west away from the keys. of folks wondering how much time they should spend preparing for the storm. we spoke to a gentleman earlier today, he runs boat tours along the florida keys. he spent a lot of time over the last couple of days tying up will hundred boats and packing up fishing materials only to turn around and undo that work. he's not sure what kind of impact. >> it is definitely hard to prepare. i was not here for irma. i'm just stretching to get guys that went through it. ten boats to move right here. >> we have also spoken to some visitors here who say they are wrapping up their vacation early because they did not want to take the chance of sticking around and getting caught up with ian. the path of florida is still uncertain. >> we are flying out of fort lauderdale. there are some concerns about traffic. of course, the airlines canceling or closing flights. >> despite all of the uncertainty, people do seem to be heeding advice to stay vigilant and prepared. plenty of folks around the state making

ian makes landfall. they have also help from 2,000 national guard members from across the state. very serious situation out here, neil. neil: thank you for that, charles watson following it all. want to get an idea on the path of the storm what floridians can come to expect, stephen morgan joins us fox weather meteorologist. what are we looking at here? >> it is fascinating listening to charles here, hurricane force winds as far as reconnaissance missions hurricane hunters have been out on, extend 35 miles out from the eye. the it moved over cuba overflight. we expect it to strengthen in the gulf of mexico. it is still a major category 3 hurricane. as far as we know this will be a devastating storm, rain, wind and affecting florida, but mostly west coast of florida. that storm surge will be a big threat. storm levels up to 12-foot the latest advisory from the hurricane center. widespread power outages because of gusty winds that could exceed 100 miles an hour. strongest sustained winds, 115 miles per hour. that is expected to continue to strengthen. what about timing? we could see getting close to fort myers folks need to be prepared by 8:00 p.m. tonight. as

fox news correspondent charles watson, he's been in sarasota, florida, riding out hurricane ian and for now, sarasota in these overnight hours is kind of breathing a sigh of relief, right, charles ? and just talk about, though, what you go we went through much of the day on wednesday and what you're expecting to see as the day opens up today. yeah, i think breathing a sigh of relief is a good way to explain it, because if you were here in sarasota county throughout the day on yesterday ,yesterday, i can't remember the days yesterday, you would have seen that the storm here was pretty ferocious. the winds were very strong and it didn't stop raining here for twenty four hours. fast forward to now and much of the worst effects in or out of the sarasota area. so the next step now is cleanup, getting a lot of the debris that has fallen into streets, onto sidewalks, out of the way. we've got some this debris here behind me, these large tree limbs snap from these trees and have been tossed around onto sidewalks, into streets. and folks are really going to want to get this out of the way fairly

ian. the people of florida are in for a few rough days. we start with charles watsonn sarasota, florida. what's going on there, charles? >> yeah, hey, good evening, jesse. i have got to tell you in the last 20 minutes or so we have had some really powerful window gusts through here. and because of that, we are staying stationary because we have got a lot of large trees around us and we want to be safe. i. you to take my word for this. there is a lot of debris all over the place. we are talking about large tree limbs that are down. we have seen large debris just being thrown around of. that could certainly be turned into projectiles. that's on top of the rain that's fallen here throughout the day. they are expecting anywhere between 5 to 8 inches of rain. and when you are talking about that much rainfall in such a short amount of time, you have to think about the saturated ground. and system of these large trees that i have mentioned possibly toppling over. certainly concerning when you are talking about homes being here. those trees possibly toppling over on homes. br

watson is standing by . sarasota hit pretty hard with wind and rain in the last 12 hours with hurricane ian . and let's check in with how things are doing. i know it's the overnight hours, charles . you know, these are the hours that i think a lot of people, you know, kind of let their guard down, especially since a lot of that weather has moved out now. but, you know, these are also the concerning hours when it's dark and you can't see the damage and the debris that's out there. and there's plenty of it out on the roadways. the good thing is that it looks like the worst of ian's elements have lifted out of here. the rain and the wind has cleared out for the most part. the next hurdle will certainly be cleanup, clearing out a lot of this debris that's been tossed all over the place. you can see some of it here behind me, these large tree limbs that have been snapped from from trees and just tossed onto sidewalks and into the streets and they're going to want to have to clean this up pretty quickly because when you consider the amount of people in sarasota county that are without power, three

watson is with us. charles what's going on there? sarasota got hit pretty hard today. >> yeah, sean. you know, i was going to tell you that conditions seemed to be getting favorable as ians moving more north and east, but, that said, we are still seeing some pretty gusty wind here, that's certainly contributing to a lot of debris that's being blown around and power outages. and speaking of power, fortunately we are near hospitals. so we believe we're on the same grid. so we haven't had the misfortune of losing power today, but that is certainly not the case for most people in sarasota county. as we p, three-quarters of the county are without power right now. and that's something that folks are probably going to have to get used to for at least a couple of days as utility crews that are on stand-by wait for more favorable conditions so that they can get out there and try to restore service for hundreds of thousands of customers right now. but i've got to tell you, it will not be easy because of the debris that is all over the place. you take a walk back here, and this is what you see all over the road right now, large tree limbs like this, relatively small compared to so
