nbc bay area's kris sanchez live in the city. kris, explain to us how the teams are getting ready right now? >> reporter: well, right now there's a lot of standing around and waiting. mainly waiting for the fog to lift so that marine helicopter can come and land here. this is one of the places designated as possibly a safe landing zone in the event of disaster. it's critical for san francisco because should an earthquake happen or another disaster take out the bridges or make the roads impassable, how do you get supplies into the city? they think they can do it by air. we have military personnel here, office of emergency services out here, fire, state, local, federal, california, oes also out here this morning. we're all waiting to see what happens when that helicopter lands. this is mclaren park, one of more than 20 locations throughout the city designated as a possible landing area for a helicopter in the event of a disaster. we've been talking with the director of emergency services, and this will be a continuation of the prac

kris?: the city has been practicing to make sure they're ready for any kind of disaster like the earthquake that happened around 10:00 last night to any other kind you can imagine. they are going to land a military helicopter here so we have the director of emergency services, thank you so much for joining us. what is the purpose of bringing the helicopter here? >> the purpose is to test our ability to get emergency supply and aid via air just in case the roads or the bridges are down after a major earthquake. >> reporter: this is the first time you practiced this. what goes into it? >> a lot of planning, a lot of coordination. we've been meeting for months and so it's a lot of coordination ahead of time to make sure we're preparing before an earthquake actually happens. >> reporter: like you said, san francisco is kind of unique because it could be landlocked in the event of a disaster that takes out the roadways or the bridges and this might be a critical part. >> we are preparing in case

i'm laura garcia. >> i'm kris sanchez. we have a busy friday morning for you. first we want to check in with meteorologist kari hall. lower numbers, but maybe not lower heat. >> lower heat for some spots. only near the immediate coastline. they've been having some hot temperatures, too. but a lot of our inland valleys are still going to be heating up today. we're in the low 70s in dublin. compare that to the 55 in santa rosa. and it is 60 degrees in san mateo. as you're heading out in the tri-valley, a live look at dublin where it's already a warm start to the day. low 70s with a light wind. as we go into the next few hours, it may cool down a couple more degrees but then start to heat up once again with temperatures at 82 degrees at 10:00. then at 90 degrees at lunchtime. already too hot to sit outside and enjoy lunch. looking at our temperatures and what we can expect today and how that compares to the daily record high temperature, santa rosa is headed for 100 degrees. we'll see that staying under the record high of 102

. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is following the latest on these investigations. kris? >> on wednesday, 94-year-old constantine could canoun passed away in a hospital. before that he lived in walnut creek. the son says what happened to his father sounded similar to a death in san mateo. they are working to determine how mr. conoun died. in a statement, the facility confirms that august 23rd he got sick at the facility in walnut creek and was transferred to a hospital. the statement goes on to say "a resident appeared to suffer a negative reaction to something they ingested. it's unclear whether the resident ingested anything harmful. we were informed last night that he passed away due to unknown causes." mr. co now fell ill days before the death. this woman, 93-year-old trudy maxwell, who was a resident at the atria san mateo facility. there the senior living facility said staff accidentally gave 93-year-old trudy maxwell cleaning fluid to drink because they believed it was some sort of red fruit juice. two other residents there also drank that fluid, they were also hos
