james madison is a great example. he proposed that congress have a complete veto over any state action of any kind. i can assure you, having looked at the dynamics of ratification, that would've killed the constitution. unquestioning lee killed it yet madison was convinced it was so important. he wrote letters to thomas jefferson complaining that he didn't get what he wanted out of the convention i don't think anyone is going to get everything they want out of a convention that is why it's a good idea. people are going to have to come to the table. in return for getting some of what they think is important in the way things perform. they are going to have to agree to some things in the weight of reform that they don't like that is for the grand bargain is. 1787 constitution is a classic grand bargain. no one got everything they wanted out of it. in fact, some of what is in it turned out to be a really bad idea. it was a way of taking and intersectional conflict that threaten to break the country apart and resolved it.
