veterans day to all the veterans out there. this is a day we remember their service and sacrifice in defense of our nation. you know, one thing that really came home to me when i was researching and reading the material that i used for only the strong is sometimes the wars that we fought, especially since world war ii have seemed inconclusive or maybe public opinion sorrowed on them. but every veteran, who served at all of those wars deserves our deepest respect and gratitude and remembrance. you know, one thing i point out in only the strong is that over two thirds of vietnam veterans were volunteers like my father's. even many of the con scripts did so willingly, they didn't resist. they didn't burn their draft cards. they went out and fought for their country in a time of need. or consider the battle of mogadishu which most americans remember from the iconic movie or book black hawk counsel. for those veterans who fought mowingmogadishu that was their y that was their okinawa. we should not only thank them for their service

you received different veterans recognitions with our dvd veterans banner program. earlier this morning before the parade, there was a pancake breakfast for veterans and the community. there were events along with the good food, including a battle between two high school bands. well in washington, d c. this veterans day holds extra special meeting. it marks the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the vietnam veterans memorial foxes. caroline shively has more now on how the nation's heroes were honored today in our nation's capital. fred miller was a medic in the mekong delta in 1968. 54 years later, he stands at the vietnam veterans memorial, photographing the names of the men in the ninth infantry. he couldn't save a lot of things. you take me back to those times. and i feel sad that maybe i made it and they didn't ah, some people gave their life uh and i survived, you know, maybe it should have been the other way around. while miller served in vietnam, his parents kept a map marking the spots where they learned from the news. his division was fighting. 37 years
