sophomore brian fraser, president of his fraternity. and junior alexandria verner, a popular athlete known for her kindness. tonight, we do have news on this suspect. so far, no known connection to that school. alex perez in east lansing, michigan, tonight. >> reporter: that gunman's rampage unleashing horror and chaos on the campus of michigan state university. >> run! > reporter: tonight, we're learning more about the three msu students killed -- junior arielle diamond anderson, sophomore brian fraser, and junior alexandria verner. the first 911 calls at 8:18 p.m. for shots fired inside berkey hall on campus. >> have an active shooter at 509 east circle drive at berkey hall in msu's campus. >> reporter: authorities identifying the gunman as 43-year-old anthony dwayne mcrae. they say he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an intense hours-long manhunt. student dominik molotky was inside the building when mcrae walked in. >> i heard the gunshot. it must have been right outside of the door, because my ears were ringing from it.

brian fraser, a sophomore at msu, and arielle anderson, also a sophomore at msu who wanted to become a pediatrician. for a few of those students on campus, it was their second mass shooting in less than a year and a half. some having survived the mass shooting at michigan's oxford high school, where a 15-year-old murdered four students and injured seven more. and as i said, this comes five years after the parkland school shooting. five years since the lives of 17 students and faculty members were senselessly robbed from their loved ones. and back then, five years ago, just like with the sandy hook massacre six years before that, there was hope that this country would finally face our decades-long pandemic of gun violence, especially when it comes to america's schools. but in fact it's only gotten worse. following the parkland school shooting in 2018, "the washington post" determined that up to that point, 187,000 of our children had been exposed to gun violence at school. now, five years later, that number has exploded, nearly doubling to more than 338,000. and that comes as the post

amy: emma lembke , a sophomore in college addressing the senate judiciary committee. for joining us today. talk about exactly what happened to you? the amount of time you spent online and how it affected you psychologically? >> absolutely, and thank you for having me on today. i got my first social media account in the sixth grade around the age of 12. as i began to spend more time on these platforms, my mental and physical health suffered. the constant quantification of my work through likes and followers heightened my anxiety and let me toward a worse mental state. the constant exposure to harmful recommended content that was feeding me pro anorexic content led me to disordered eating, all of these negative consequences that i still grapple with today. amy: talk about this issue of disordered eating and how it came from what you were imbibing online. talk about how it works, when you were looking at, the silos that brought you down. >> i always use youtube as an example. as a young girl, 12 years old, i would go onto youtube to look up a good workout or healthy reci
