earlier i spoke with abc's political director, rick klein, about the sharp divide among voters. obama aide david axelrod said this indictment will help cement trump's base, but it could also cement his ceiling. what do you make of that? is this really beneficial for trump politically at this point? yeah, i think the way to think about it is that it's possible that people rally behind him people that were there already, but it's hard to identify people that were on the fence about him or we're not on the trump train before that are now going to say indicted or more likely toump e support him because he was indicted? i think more likely than that is you have some people that might be so suorrs who are asking, is it worth it? is it worth it to go through this all over again? that said we've seen former president trump used, uh, legal scrutiny and ethics complaints. um anything that's done a short of actual removal from office when it came to impeachment. all that added to his political appeal, donald trump has defied expectations so many times in the past florida governor rhonda sa

abc news political director rick klein joins us from washington. rick, good morning to you.o great to have you with us as always. so former president trump says that he will run even if he's indicted. we know he has a strong base, but he's facing multiple investigations. how does that play into his chances in today's gop? >> reporter: yeah, janai, you're seeing two different republican parties emerge right now. there's the republican party of cpac, the activist base that in the past has had a lot to say about who the nominee will be, and they are very, very trumpy. we saw it all weekend here in the washington area with cpac. the other republican party is the donor class and a lot of elected officials and they are skeptical of trump and willing and eager to look elsewhere. governor ron desantis did not appear at cpac, but he has been in florida at a club for growth conference, a big outside group that plays a big role in republican politics. he'll be speaking later today at the reagan library, and we'll see the first glimpse of him in iowa later this week. a lot of people int
