that's what san francisco is about. now what we're seeing all over, is others who are trying to define what san francisco narrative is. and we know that like any other major city, we have our challenges. we know like any other major city, they struggle through the pan demic and some cities may be coming back faster than we are. but we also know that unlike other cities, this is san francisco one of the most beautiful cities anywhere in the world. and when we come together, and we make the kinds of decisions necessary to improve the lives of people in this city, we know what is possible. making the investments to this downtown corridor. now we know that, it's not just because of the challenges of what happens in san francisco, that the downtown san francisco area struggled. retail is struggling all over, things have changed online purchasing and taxes and other things and you can count to and talk about that contribute to the challenges of this. which means as a city, we have to think differently. we can't just focus on

i'm a fire investigator for the city and county of san francisco. the job of a fire investigator is to go after the fire has been put out and to determine the origin and the cause of the fire. so we are the people who after the firefighters have come in and done their magnificent work to extinguish the fire, we go through the fire scene and we are able to find how the fire started. just showing up, being who you are can mean a world of difference to someone. when someone sees you as an identifiably queer person, an identifiable female presenting person or a person of color walk into their home, they can feel more comfortable and more trusting just knowing that you are around and that you may have some insight into their situation and to their community needs that others may not have. the san francisco fire department i'm proud to say goes out of its way to recruit women, minorities, and to the lgbtq+ community, we are awaiting you and wanting you to come join us as a san francisco fire department. no one is going to represent us like you are going t

stabbing of a 58 year-old woman working at the bakery in chinatown here in san francisco wednesday, sanistrict attorney brooke jenkins announced that law is facing multiple felony charges in connection to the alleged stabbing, including attempted murder assault with a deadly weapon battery causing serious bodily injury. boston president and second degree burglary. the stabbing suspect is a convicted felon who was recently released from california state prison after serving time for a previous stabbing incident here in the city. what i can share publicly is that he had a 2016 which also attempted murder of another individual. >> he took a plea to that charge in 2018 and was sentenced to 9 year state prison. >> former san francisco district attorney george gascon was in office at the time. a full point lies. prosecution settled on a prison sentence that recently expired. yes, he had that full sentence of of 9 years. he was only >> required to serve. 85% of that. and so he had exhausted his time in custody. it had been released on parole. that was not a decision. >> from my but a decision

[applause] >> hello i'm city attorney david chiu. first i would like to everyone to understand how we got here. in the 1970s, certain pharmaceutical companies created powerful description opioids and manufactured a crisis of undiagnosed pain. extremely dangerous and addictive opioids were marketed to patients as safe, we now that was a lie. prescription includes normally reserved for end of life care were given to people with headaches and back pain. this resulted in millions of american and entire generation becoming dependent on opioids. every aspect from manufacturing manufactures to retailers to distributing played a part in exacerbating this crisis. five years ago, san francisco brought a lawsuit against every part of the supply chain distributing distributors and dispensers like walgreens who pushed out these drugs to pat

with sand the way that san francisco was and when you look at a map of san francisco have a unique street grid and one of the thing is those streets started off in extremely long piers. but by 1875 they know they needed more so the ferry building was built and it was a long affair and the first cars turned around at the ferry building and picking up people and goods and then last night the street light cars the trams came to that area also. but by the late 1880s we needed something better than the ferry building. a bond issue was passed for $600,000. to build a new ferry building i would say 800 thousand for a studio apartment in san francisco they thought that was a grand ferry building had a competition to hire an architecture and choose a young aspiring architect and in the long paris and san francisco had grand plans for this transit station. so he proposed the beautiful new building i wanted it wider, there is none tonight. than that actually is but the price of concrete quitclaim two how and was not completed and killed. but it opened a greater claim and became fully operational bef

well san francisco during pride. pride month is so beautiful and sometimes people who live here, um forget what a magical place it is my husband and i live just a few blocks away and we walk to our favorite restaurants. we hold hands we kiss in public and we proudly introduce each other as my husband. we build a home a life together, and we don't live in fear. we never take that for granted. i never take that for granted. as an immigration attorney. i hear from countless people all around the world. who don't have that luxury of safety. living in san francisco as an out gay man was always my dream as a teenager as a gaiety in asia in turkey. so i know firsthand what it is like being an asylum seeker, leaving my home country behind and coming to the united states was extremely scary. but i knew that as a gay man, i would never be able to live a free and happy life in turkey. i wanted to be free to live my truth and to love who i wanted to love. luckily i was a little bit of myself and i had access to legal representat

born and raised in san francisco.le car equipment, technically i'm a transit operator of 135 and work at the cable car (indiscernible) and been here for 22 years now. i grew up around here when i was a little can i. my mom used to hang in china town with her friends and i would get bored and they would shove me out of the door, go play and find something to do. i ended up wandering down here when i was a kid and found these things. ♪ [ music ] ♪ ♪ >> fascinated by them and i wanted to be a cable car equipment from the time i was a little kid. i started with the emergency at the end of 1988 and drove a bus for a year and a half and i got lucky with my timing and got here at cable car and at that time, it really took about an average five to maybe seven years on a bus before you could build up your seniority to come over here. basically, this is the 1890s verse ever a bus. this is your basic public transportation and at the time at its height, 1893, there were 20 different routes ask this powerhouse, there -- and this p

we can't let other people talk about san francisco the way that they want to talk about san francisco when we know what san francisco is. so i challenge all of you tell the store. talk about the experience you have innior neighborhoods. not just bad butt good. the beautiful places that just opened the new businesses and the new opportunity tell the story of the goodness of our city. because -- upon even though there are challenges that exist when i appreciate is when the time come to invest in the shelter we come together. when the time come to help member in need we come together. when the time come to support a business from closing we come together. yes, hard decisions had to be made. in this budget, sacrifice in this budget that 19~ means every dollar cannot be wasted. it has to be used. to change san francisco for the better. not just the narrative of what people write. how people feel. what we are delivering. what we are changing. you hear all the stories but san francisco is on the top 10 places to visit.
