gina: we are a long way from that. real weakness in the financial sector is expected to be in the regionals and smaller banks i think we need to wait a little bit to get deeper into earnings. consumer finance companies could be incredibly interesting of this earnings season and how they are contending with higher interest rates and what is the consumer hey vera shift in response to higher interest rates. how desperate are consumers to take on that. and frankly when you look at the broad financial sector, insurance is a huge part of financials at large. we focus on banks as an economic indicator but insurance companies are the leaders in financial space in terms of fundamental trends. they have done reasonably well with price trends. i want to watch the insurance companies for signs of potential weakness or strength. lisa: every guest this morning has said what a week. we got a complete reset with expectations of dis-inflation taking hold or specter jobless claims or earnings we are getting increasingly. how have you re

gina: across the board in different ways.- defined for me than the rest of the index of one thing we have been watching carefully over the past two years as evidence of profitability or lack thereof is operating margins, we specifically look at them for a core set of companies in the s&p 500 that tend to lead trends in the broader indicator like net income or even sales growth. what we want to see is operating margins continue to heal. the good news here is that exploiting the energy sector, huge input, operating margins showed their first sign of improvement in the first order earnings season. we need to see that continue over the next several weeks. this is the most important line for people watching, my opinion. tom: operating margins improving because of cost-cutting or operating margins improving because revenue surprise is higher? gina: it's an excellent point and something we are watching carefully as well. so far it's all about cost-cutting. it will probably continue to be all about cost-cutting and reduced inflation

let's get reaction to that from gina sanchez gina, good morning >> good morning. >> all this hawkish talk from fed officials. do you buy it? do you think we are definitely getting the hike later on this month? is that priced in to the markets? >> yes, i think we are probably going to get it. do i think it is necessary i'm not sure quite frankly, most market investors with the futures curve, it is priced in we have seen inflation continue p to fall. the only thing that will keep inflation higher is if we see a sudden spike in oil. given we are seeing a slowing in the economy, that is really hard to expect. it would be a shocker. i think the one thing we do have to get used to as a nation is that if we continue deglobalizing which is driving some of the shift in inflation, our inflation expectations should be modestly higher than they have been for the last two decades. i don't think that is an unreasonable thing to expect the long end of the market has not priced that in >> i want to get your opinion on why the markets are moving higher maybe july's hike is priced in what about anothe

gina: it is not within my purview to finance. the cost of borrowing go higher and higher very quickly. at the same time, we are seeing the amount consumers are able to get on deposits to rise rapidly. it depends on the degree to which the job market slows down, suppressing wage growth and forcing consumers to go borrow. it is worth noting that borrowing over all is still at a very low level relative to income debt service and relative to income over a 40 year low. there is a capacity to borrow but it will cost more to borrow money going forward, given where interest rates are. it is important to note that is not the only decision tumors will be forced to make. the job market remains very strong. wage growth remains steady area as it -- remain very steady. as inflation numbers come down, that can offset the pace of debt. tom: we are all living very quickly. that is what i am seeing right now. divine -- defined very, very quickly in your world and what will this do to mere mortals watching? ira: very quickly, it was almost instanta
