lauren fox is live on capitol hill.atic criticism of this blockage here. you have heard if from some republican lawmakers and you certainly see a lot of family members go to the hill to lobby him directly. do you see any movement from his position? >> reporter: yeah, so far, tuberville is steadfasting that he's opposed to the policy, and until he gets a vote on the senate floor or until the dod reverses that policy on abortion travel reimbursement, he is not going to back off. we should remind people that tuberville can ultimately stop a nominee from getting confirmed in the senate, but he can really slow down this process. which is precisely what he's doing. if senate democrats wanted to put these nominees on the floor one by one, including summon like the marine, which the marine corp. has not been without in more than 160 years at this point, they could go to the floor and they could move that nomination. it would just take time. but so far, democrats are making the case that they do not want to set that precedent. w

let's bring in cnn congressional correspondent lauren fox for the latest.ve been talking about what happened last night and that plays into moving this forward, but this bill for six decades passed on a bipartisan basis. it guides u.s. defense policy. what is the future here? it looked a little daunting last night. >> first they have to pass this . kevin mccarthy is, obviously, going to be seeing whether or not the controversial amendments that h his members votes on are enough to hold his conference together. we expect it likely will be. we will get a little bit of a glimpse on where the house freedom caucus is this morning because they are going it have press conference. we expect most democrats will peel off, not support this despite the fact that it passed out of committee with bipartisan support, probably just a handful of five to seven democrats would back it. then the senate has to pass their own version of this bill, which we expect to happen over the next several weeks. then they will have a discussion. as one republican said to me last night, the

lauren fox is live on the hill. what has been the response of all this? >> reporter: democrats are furious arguing this is suppose to be a bipartisan effort to support men and women in uniform across this country to ensure the u.s. military has everything it needs at home and abroad. instead, this has evolved into a culture war. what you can expect to see today in this final vote is the fact that democrats are expected to peel off in mass. maybe a handful five to seven democrats who vote with republicans on this legislation. democrats and republicans were united as it came out of committee. this was a bipartisan bill. kevin mccarthy, the house speaker leaned into those hard- line conservatives that were asking for votes on a series of controversial amendments including one that would reverse the department of defense is policy of reimbursing travel for individual servicemen and women who have to travel across state lines in order to seek abortion care if the state they are stationed in does not provide that care or if the state they are stationed in does
