mesha mainor joins me now.is not often that a state representative and no disrespect creates an earthquake across the political landscape on a nationwide level, but you just did that. what drove this decision? >> thank you for having me, charles. let me just say this. i have been in politics for three years now. not quite a long time. over the past three years it has been difficult for me to get things passed with my counterparts. it has been much easier with the republican party on certain issues in those issues are education, public safety and putting people over systems. i change parties not really because of the party itself but more so because of the policy. charles: is not the old line i didn't leave the democratic party, the party left me, but in a certain sense before you got into politics you voted along the democratic line. i am not sure any of these things change, of course they were highlighted, the not funding police and now schools have come into focus and parental rights. you are a mother, you ha

liz: look who's here georgia state lawmaker mesha mainor. it's good to have you on. it really is a matter of what is best for the community and there are some ideals in my district in particular that are important to them one being education and the other being public safety. there's also a problem with the prosecutorial system within the community and those three bills in particular are totally against what the democratic party is about. as switch to the party that most works with ideals in my community. liz: how hard was the choice? >> quite hard, this was not an overnight decision. i've been at the capital for three years now and from the moment that i walked in it is been a challenge and i am considered an outsider. i'm not a part of any political regime. i'm a person of the people, i came to the capital to represent them and i quickly found out that the ideals of the democrats were not to necessarily represent the people. liz: dozens of politicians and lawmakers have pushed parties for decades. you were attacked the moment that you spoke out for law enforcement,

mesha mainor, good to have you. why did you do this? >> thank you for having me. i did it, really, because the democrats put their heels in the sand on some key issues that are important not only to me, but also to my constituents. one being parent choice or school choice to public safety, three, victim rights. this last session they were for prosecutors over families that have been victimized so those three things are the most recent things. neil: this has been out there for a while. what was the tipping point for you? >> you know, when you have a colleague that-- multiple colleagues that put money up on social media up to $1,000 saying please, anybody, i don't care who you are, vote against my colleague, we would rather have you than her, that probably was the number one tipping point, but this has been something going on for years. there's an article out in one of our local newspapers that goes into more detail about that, but this was not an overnight decision. neil: you know, there's a lot of back and forth in georgia, of course. it was, when you lost the two
