as we said, the langs had just moved to the bay area for jeff to begin his new job, a downtown san jose housing development is now on hold after a major investor pulled out of the project. the project is a three tower complex on south second and third street. the plans by startup tech firm neighbor would have allowed people to customize their unit with at least to own agreement. but our neighbor has returned deposits and is stepping away from the project because of costs. so many new fees start to get added on that make it so expensive that the cost of building new housing outpaces the revenue that that these developers can generate through rents or sales. other projects are also experiencing delays. managers of the six and jackson apartments in san jose say construction costs and development timelines have changed due to delays in getting permits and inspections on schedule. when you look at what's already built, you know the residential is primarily filled. the office is around 20% plus vacant. but the metrics of everything being downtown light rail, dearden station just down the way.
