. >> reporter: nbc news correspondent valerie castro joins us now.was a unanimous decision by the jury and according to those inside the courtroom the gunman had no noticeable reaction when the sentence was red by the judge. he appeared to say something to his attorney. family members of the victims were said to be sniffling and wiping away tears, sobs were heard outside the courtroom. the judge will be tasked with officially imposing that sentence tomorrow during another hearing, it's possible that bowers' legal team could begin the process of filing an appeal. >> what are families saying. >> one family thanked the jury for their hard work and determination while upholding the law. although it won't be closure it does deliver a message of justice. some family members spoke after the hearing at a press conference just a short time ago. here's one of the victims' son had to say. >> i feel relief and the jury sat through months of horror and delivered justice to my mom and everyone that was killed and everyone injured and everyone beyond. >> reporter:
