. >> abc 70 meteorologist sandy patel is here with that forecast. hey, sandy. >> hi there. >> and julian and omar, the forecast is looking good today. temperatures came down, the winds came up. let me show you some live pictures from our tower cameras. and you can see just a lovely mix of sun and fog out there. right now. the winds are steady, 27 miles an hour are coming off the ocean in san francisco. so breezy out there. so if you are stepping out, you may need to bundle up as we go hour by hour, 6:00 tonight, 20 to 25 mile an hour winds. they pick up a bit along the coast at 9 p.m. over 30 miles an hour. and then the winds will drop off in the overnight hours. and then tomorrow afternoon, it'll be another breezy one, but not quite as strong as today. the upside to the onshore winds. we have good air quality across the entire bay area. and as we look at a live picture from our san rafael camera, it is a sunny view. good air quality will continue the next three days for any outdoor activities. a trough to our north enhancing the onshore winds, which is why we saw the coole

. >> yes, the most friday, i'm clear, on that weekend, we should emphasize that more sandy patel. >> yeah. and it is going to be a fabulous weekend. here's a sign of what's to come, larry. and alma, as you take a look here, temperatures are running higher than where they were yesterday by eight degrees in santa rosa, up five in san jose, oakland, two degrees warmer in san francisco, though. so we have 90s inland 60s coast, a nice wide variety of summertime warm weather here. as we take a look at a live picture from our santa cruz camera, the waves kind of really not too large right now, but that's going to be changing. we have hurricane jova that is weakening, pulling away from the baja california coastline. but as it does, it is going to send big waves, high surf advisories are up for southern california coastline and for parts of the monterey and san benito county areas. a fire weather watch because moisture from there is expected to head in this direction and could bring some dry lightning. so this is going to start at 5 a.m. tomorrow, runs until 11 p.m. tomorrow night. also, that

and we know that sandy patel is tracking that right now. >> indeed, the surf pretty strong today, sandyeah. dan and corina, take a look at this live picture from our santa cruz camera. it's pretty rough as it's just pounding the coastline right now . hopefully people keep those things in mind about never turning their back to the ocean . we do have that high surf advisory until 11 p.m. tonight. a 15 to 20 foot waves on steep slopes and beaches, 12 to 16 otherwise. but those breakers, you can see they've been basically going up as we got closer to today, 12 footers at point arena, 16 footers around monterey bay, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. this is the low pressure system that is sending us the big waves. it has been really bringing a good soaking to the pacific northwest where they've seen several inches of rain. we didn't get as much, but we didn't expect much. it's a sunny sky right now. take a look at the rainfall totals. half an inch at mount tam. that was the highest total. everyone else, anywhere between 6300 santa rosa to four hundredths in oakland. and as we take a

so let's check in now with abc7 news meteorologist sandy patel. yeah >> and julian and omar.his is going to stick around through tomorrow. so let's take a look at the air quality right now and you will notice there are some parts that are in the red, believe it or not, from redwood city out towards fremont livermore, san jose. that is unhealthy air. we have orange for santa rosa, san francisco, oakland, concord area and that is poor for sensitive groups. so as we take a look at the smoke forecast, notice that northerly wind is going to continue to drive smoke into the bay area. so tomorrow morning during the commute, you're going to notice the thick smoke. but later in the afternoon, even going into tomorrow, we're going to thursday excuse me, you're going to start to notice an improvement as we take a look at a live picture right now from our exploratorium camera. hard to tell if it's low clouds or haze. it's a combination of both. air quality advisory through tomorrow due to smoke from the wildfires in northern california and oregon, some safety tips. keep your windows and

abc seven news meteorologist sandy patel here now. hi, sandy. >> hi there, larry.t's going to feel like fall just like it did today. hey, it is the start of meteorological fall today. and let me show you these live pictures tonight. you will notice there are a lot of clouds around from all of our tower cameras. the different vantage points. here's a look at your holiday weekend. isolated showers tomorrow morning. still a chance on sunday. these are not game changers as we head towards labor day, it'll brighten up and it will turn milder for most areas, low 60s to mid 80s. speaking of bright good air quality, so smoke is out of here and that good air quality for your outdoor plans continues all three days. as you look at the air quality forecast right now on live doppler seven, you can see all the cloud cover. there's an area of low pressure that's been just spinning here and it has been producing thunderstorms up in northern california and the sierra right now. they've been seeing rain many parts shefs have been picking up measurable rain, half an inch to an inch f

. >> abc seven news meteorologist sanjay patel is tracking it all for sandy. when will air quality actually improve? dan >> this weekend. we're going to notice that improvement. and alma, let's take a look at live pictures from our tower cameras that heavy smoke is still visible from vollmer peak. and you will notice from mount tam, san jose's a bit hazy, but exploratorium cameras showing you that sea breeze is bringing in some blue sky, fresher air from mount tam. you can certainly see the combination of the smoke and the low clouds. so we do have that spare the air alert extended through tomorrow as unhealthy air quality is still lingering so poor for today, moderate to poor tomorrow. and as we take a look at the air quality, the sensors right now will show you, most areas are in the yellow, which is moderate. it is poor for sensitive groups in the north bay and the east bay. and you will notice parts of the north bay starting to see green, which is good air quality, even if it is temporary. tsay so tonight we're going to keep that haze and smoke around this

and of course abc7 news meteorologist sanjay patel is tracking the conditions. sandy the weekend is upon us. >> any relief in sight here? >> we will get some relief on sunday. okay dan and larry, let me show you a live picture right now. i know it's really hard to breathe out there and burning eyes, scratchy throat, all those things. the view from downtown oakland, from emeryville, camera pretty much is a hazy, smoky view you extended. is that spare the air alert because the poor air quality for parts of the bay area is going to hang around tomorrow. but you will notice it's moderate elsewhere and then sunday we are looking at good air quality across our entire region in right now in the good to moderate category. that's not going to last very long. the smoke will settle overnight tonight. so as we look at the smoke forecast, 7:00 tonight, we're still dealing with it 7:10 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, we still have some smoke and haze and then late tomorrow night into sunday, we finally start to see a break as the onshore winds ramp up. so it's not so much tomorrow, they'r

so let's check in now with meteorologist sandy patel for the latest on that sandy. yeah.at earthquake was south southwest of wesley and east of san jose. let me show that to you. it happened shortly after 9 p.m. and it wasn't just one earthquake, but at 939, it was a 4.4. a depth of two miles. as i show you sort of a close up view just west of patterson, there have been 30 reports that preliminary magnitude was 4.5. the usgs has revised it to a 4.4 now. but you look at the shake intensity map and you can see that it was felt around the bay area all the way down towards the santa cruz area up to san francisco, into the east bay and out towards the central valley. i know some of us, i felt it certainly up here in san francisco. as we take a look at that wider view, you can see just how far reaching this earthquake was. all right. let's talk about our winds here. a little breezy out there, gusting to 22 miles an hour in napa right now. air quality is good for the entire region and we're going to keep it that way until about wednesday night into thursday. could see some smoke
