they will make their case before the republican conference later today after jen jordan failed threeimes to win a spot last week. the house has been paralyzed without a speaker for nearly 3 weeks now. kevin mccarthy himself calls it embarrassing. here is more. >> reporter: house republicans remain in turmoil almost 3 weeks after the unprecedented ouster of a sitting speaker. kevin mccarthy was pushed out after eight republicans joined with democrats and voted out kevin mccarthy as speaker. this was initiated by house republicans. they have not been able to coalesce around anyone to replace mccarthy as of yet. the house cannot do any business until a speaker is elected. they have been unable to unite behind any candidate. first, they nominated steve scalise, the house republican majority leader. he was unable to get the votes to be elected speaker. jen jordan, the house judiciary committee chairman was nominated to be the next speaker of the house. he went to the floor three times and he failed to win over enough support. you can only fail to lose four republican votes. he lost 25 on

. >> scott jennings, will jim jordan's controversial past hurt house republicans in competitive races if he were to be elected speaker of the house? >> i don't really think so. i actually don't think most americans care all that much who the speaker of the house is as much as they care about what the house is doing and what results they're getting on legislation and their priorities. i will tell you i just had a talk with a few members over the last couple of days, it feels like jordan's got some momentum here. i was even talking to a member who told me he's currently for scalise but would also be fine with jordan. you can see there's some overlap between the two guys right now. i don't know really who's ahead, and i think a lot of members are waiting to hear about their pitches next week. obviously jordan's come on strong and one person even told me today that he thought jordan over the last couple of years had matured, that he wasn't quite the agitator that he had been, he's trying to be a broader voice within the conference. i'm interested to see how it plays out. whoever gets it,

been going across the board, don bacon, carlos gimenez, someone else who voted against jordan, now miller meeks, jen all of these names are of course part of a public list. the way they vote in the house is public. but it's also something that turning point action, a conservative grass roots group that's very aligned with donald trump, has tweeted urging their followers to reach out to them, light up their phone lines. i'm not saying that this is the only reason. but it was pointed out to me by a republican operative that these things don't just happen in a vacuum. i would also point out that jordan spokesperson just in the last few minutes says this is abhorrent and condemns the fact that threats are being leveraged, but nevertheless they are. >> let me point out that matt gaetz for congress sent out a letter that says, hi, this is matt gaetz. we're inches from electing speaker jim jordan but rhinos are working with radical democrats to block jim jordan from becoming speaker. he is sending out these messages and are other members pointing the finger at him? he is the one who triggered all of this b
