giants have hired bob melvin as the team's new manager.he team posted this on just a few minutes ago, officially announcing melvin's hiring. melvin managed the san diego padres over the last two seasons, leading them to the nlcs in 2022. he replaces gabe kapler, who was fired by the giants last month. melvin returns to the bay area, where he managed the oakland a's for 11 years. he spent a long time with the a's. he put in his dues up here in the bay area. i think he always appreciated, like the rivalry between the two teams up here and have a lot of respect for him. i hope that it would be a great fit. melvin was named manager of the year three times over his 20 year career as manager. the bay area native also played for the giants in the mid 1980s. with halloween less than a week away here, some children are being told not to celebrate in the classroom. a new jersey school district sent a letter to parents saying there will be no trick or treating or halloween themed events during school hours. district leaders say it is unfair to famili
