. >> forecast tonight with the search for a new oakland police chief in oakland. police commission subcommittee says it is narrow down a list of new chief candidates to just 7 people, including former chief lauren armstrong. the mayor now has that list. but as kron four's, dan kerman reports that committee didn't follow the proper process and official finalists have not yet been determined. dan, it's always something with this story. can you explain what's going on here? well, it turns out the subcommittee of the oakland police commission jumped the gun by releasing a list of 7 candidates. the fact is the application process is not yet over. not over till friday and the candidates haven't even been interviewed. and until that happens and official list of at least 3 candidates won't be submitted to the mayor. the oakland police commission issued a statement monday saying its staff searches ad hoc committee had come up with the top 7 candidates to be oakland's next. police chief and then among the top 7 candidates is former chief leronne armstrong tuesday. armstrong

i'm for all of us don't want to shop in oakland anymore. don't want to eat out in oakland.n't want to go even during the day to go to a restaurant. we don't want to park on the streets. our goal is to significantly reduce this and get this problem under control so that people can come to the city and feel like they don't have to worry about their car getting broken into. they can go to a restaurant. they can go to two concert venues and not have that fear of their things being taken out of their car. now, police are asking people not to engage with dangerous thieves in the act. they say they could have guns and in many cases, these are violent criminals to respond to public demand. oakland pd funded six police academy fees this year to help with low staffing. they now have 12 foot patrol officers and as long as city council approves the city will install 300 new license plate readers within the next six weeks. and seven of those six suspects were charged by the district attorney. chief jones tells me the operations will happen fairly regularly. okay. well i'm sure that they
