you go along on napoleon bonaparte's ride from a young soldier to brilliant military tactician overseeing massive battles brought to life in meticulous detail in typical ridley scott fashion, counterbalance with the battlefield of love. that seemed to allude him with his one-time wife and love of his life. josephine played by vanessa kirby. phoenix plays in the poli and with 3 straight and then antisocial discomfort. almost uncomfortable in his own skin unless he was leading a charge against enemy lines like scott's movies, black hawk down gladiator of the martian just to name a few. this one is also a spectacle for the eyes with attention to every detail, both peaceful and warlike, grand and small. the problem here comes in the storytelling. maybe it's because the movie is so visually stunning. it felt like the story couldn't keep up. i wanted to care more about the players on all sides here, but it never let me get invested. it felt like the story was simply never flushed out. i like napoleon very much but didn't love this dean's list b. and it wouldn't be a holiday weekend without kids
