i think jake has surmised it well. the one thing i would add to this, when you ask republicans about donald trump and his kids, their argument is that donald trump's children were able to offer some sort of tangible business benefit to the people they had relationships with where hunter biden had no experience or background in some of the jobs that he was able to get with burisma or this chinese investment company. i'm not saying that's the case. i think there could be an argument that a $2 billion hedge fund that jared kushner was a part is very questionable as to whether or not he has had the capability and the ability to do something like that, and the influence and connections that he had with donald trump, you could certainly make the argument that there was a connection there. but i think, katy, the important thing to point out here is that these are nothing but accusations. they have correlative effects but don't have necessarily connective tissue. they point out instances where hunter biden was given a job, giv

>> reporter: jake, that's exactly what the special counsel is trying to do. they're trying to make sure this trial remains on track to get started in march because they know that eventually this case was going to come to the supreme court. they know that donald trump was going to -- and his lawyers were going to use the next couple months to make filings to the courts to try to delay this trial. that's been the game all along. so what they're asking for is for the court to take on head on the question of whether trump is immune from prosecution for things that happened while he was in office, and secondly, whether he essentially is barred from being tried in this case because of double jeopardy, because he was obviously impeached by the congress, but he was not convicted. that is one of the central questions that jack smith and his team is now asking. the filing says in part -- of that principle, is that a zenith here, whereas here a grand jury has accused a former president of committing federal crimes to subvert the peaceful transfer of power to his lawfull
