let's bring in priscilla ail from alvarez. how are they hoping to use this border cris tis to their benefi? >> over the last few days, they now see an opportunity to go on the offensive on border security. and sources i've talked to say the reason for that is because the messaging here is quite simple, they can pin the blame on republicans for not wanting to move forward with a tough deal. as one strategist told me, quote, they chickened out. now, generally democrats have framed immigration on the campaign trail as wanting to move forward with immigration reform, but not having the opportunity because republicans got in the way. this time, though, they can take a step further by saying they wanted reform and tough reform and republicans still got in the way. this deal that we know of so far doesn't include legalization for undocumented immigrants. that has been a top ask for democrats for years. and by that being excluded and by the new authorities being added, it essentially puts democrats in a position where they can take ad

like to bring in priscilla alvarez and rafael romo. let's start with priscilla in washington in front of the white house. what is the reaction from the biden administration? >> reporter: well, the white house has condemned the texas governor's actions on the u.s. -- on the texas/mexico border, saying this is, quote, extreme political stunts. this is part of an ongoing dispute between the governor of texas and president biden over the handling of the u.s./mexico border. since the start of the biden administration, the texas governor slammed the president's immigration policies and taken actions as an affront to the policies. this latest action on the texas/mexico border this past week, where the texas governor blocked part of the border and border patrol from accessing it really marked an escalation and an unprecedented one. now, as you mentioned there, the department of justice went to the supreme court asking for them to intervene because, they said, texas was blocking border patrol from its federal enforcement duties, and saying the

priscilla alvarez is joining us live from washington. i think the threshold for impeachment for a cabinet second o secretary is different and new. what do we expect today? >> this is the start of a process that was a long time coming. secretary mayorkas has been a target for republicans really early on as someone that they criticized over president biden's border policies. and now senior republicans see it as the way forward as their probe into president biden has moved quite slowly. so this is what they are going to do now, move forward with impeachment proceedings against s secretary mayorkas on this defining issue. the committee said that the committee will ensure that the public is aware of the scope of secretary mayorkas' egregious misconduct and refusal tone tors the law. but also that the process is completed promptly and accountability is achieved swiftly. now, to your earlier point, conservative scholars and legal experts have said and argued that just not agreeing with an administration's policies is not enough for impeachment.
