those yellow orange areas have been over the peninsula in the east bay. ng onto those roads, you certainly noticed it. a lot of this energy is shifting further southward. so the north bay, although still way is beginning to be at least calmer while the south bay only picking things up. in fact, right about bill peters. we do have some energy moving upwards. that's that early thunderstorm formation right there and comes along with brief areas of our heaviest of rainfall. watch those travels on 6, 80 to 80 this morning. and 85 as well. these highways especially now in the south bay, seeing some really heavy rainfall coming down on them as you can see, future cast is indicating that this heaviest of rainfall, we'll continue to pass to the east and the south and gradually over the course of the next hour here, we're all going to be looking at conditions starting to taper off rainfall this afternoon will be in the form of light brief showers. really just misty drizzly, conditions under overall gray skies will keep you updated on exactly what's going on this nex

east bay hills. also in the midst of some of those showers as of right now, you can see that rainfall pushing through the bay area. that line of yellow in orange right there. that's what i'm really eyeing. that is working its way on towards san francisco. the rest of the bay area unpacking with it, not just some heavier intensity rainfall, but some strong winds, too. and even a little bit of cloud to ground lightning. right now, senator fell the richmond, sandra fell bridge, valley down to the golden gate, actively seeing some heavier showers, some stronger winds and already saturated soil. so do expect a little bit of standing water and that risk of hydroplaning bay bridge. it's also coming down for you highway. 24 out through lafayette, walnut creek down through san ramon, enough to concord on 6.80, also seeing some heavier showers in the spots right here. as i mentioned, though, some of the heaviest of rainfall is still ofgshore. we do see a little bit of upward movement of air. that is a sign of p

"today in the bay"'s bob redell is live at orinda b.a.r.t. bob, service has resumed, i think you said, between orinda and lafayette in time for the morning commute? >> reporter: correct. we've seen the trains running and b.a.r.t. said they would have the trains running, two-track service on the yellow line here in the east bay. they have been running between lafayette and orinda. if you live in walnut creek, you're trying to get into san francisco and b.a.r.t. is your normal way of getting in, it is up and running and it's a normal tuesday morning right after new year's eve. this is after b.a.r.t. spent yesterday and overnight trying to repair the tracks, which they successfully were able to do. they had to use a crane to get the two derailed cars on the rails, back on the rails so they could be towed out of service. those two cars were on an eastbound yellow train along highway 24. this happened a little after 9:00 yesterday morning. at least one of the car's undercarriage also caught

we start with breaking news in the east bay. a pilot has been killed in a plane crash in concord happened around 10 30 this morning at the intersection of concord avenue and dimond boulevard. and as you can see, that's not that far away from the pew cannon airport. it's not clear whether the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash. con fire initially stated that no other vehicles were involved in this crash. however, some additional information that's been released by the agency has indicated that another vehicle has been involved. the driver has now been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. that's according to con fire. this crash is being investigated by the faa and the ntsb we have a crew on the way to the scene right now so we can get some more information about this breaking news story. again, one person killed in a small plane crash in concord. this happened in the middle of a major intersection right near the buchanan airport. that intersection is concord avenue, dimond boulevard. they're asking peo

right now, some light showers in san francisco in a few spots in the east bay, san pablo bay on up towards southwestern solano county. much more significant rainfall to our north in to our east right now. and this is low elevation snowfall that you're seeing in blue yet another big snow maker up in the sierra nevada, november and december were not great months for the sierra, but january certainly has been and it's been one to 3 now 4 systems just piling up. that snowfall up there. great for snowpack. not good for travel. now today you can see much activity to the north to the east of us into the south of us. but the big area itself is comparatively quiet. that's not to say we will have showers, spotty showers will continue on and off throughout the day becoming a bit more widespread towards the close of the afternoon. best chances of any heavy rainfall being in eastern alameda and contra costa counties and southeastern portions of santa clara county. now we will be seeing dry skies after this active day today on into tomorrow. so little break for your thursday. rainfall for the bay area t

she's busy east bay or somewhere else. >> east bay. it's kind of gone from bad to worse. you know, when the rain picks up, we start to see more crashes happen. and that's exactly the case. if you drive on westbound 80. so from, uh, hercules all the way down through richmond, let's show you the maps, because we're keeping an eye on this. there is a crash westbound 80 at cutting, and that is, uh, 580 cutting that is involving a big rig. and so that is blocking one of the lanes of traffic. very slow going all the way down towards the macarthur maze. and there's a crash at westbound 80 at ashby as well. some crashes on 880 leading to the macarthur maze. there was an overturned car on its roof, uh, northbound 880 at seventh street. so it is very tricky driving conditions out there this morning. we can see some of that reflected in this almost an hour long drive. time to get from vallejo to the macarthur maze. 49 minutes. we've seen this inch up as the problems have increased throughout the morning. bay bridge toll plaza, the shot going in and out because of some of that rain.

is working to repair the tracks after a derailment yesterday in the east bay. "today in the bay"'s bob redell is live at orinda b.a.r.t. >> bob, i'm asking you the question so many people are wondering, will service resume today between orinda and lafayette in time for the morning commute? >> reporter: it will, we just found out within the past 20 minutes that b.a.r.t. will be able to resume service between orinda and lafayette b.a.r.t., so this is the yellow line service here in the east bay. it will be normal, track service for people trying to get to places like, let's say, walnut creek, into the city of san francisco. this is after b.a.r.t. spent yesterday and overnight repairing the tracks caused by a minor derailment that took place yesterday morning. you see they used a crane to get the derailed cars taken out of service and back to the maintenance yard. two cars on an eastbound yellow train derailed on the tracks along highway 24 a little after 9:00 yesterday morning. at least one of the car's undercarriage caught fire. all passengers and employees were

on the east bay.alleys are making your own fog and that has been the challenge for the past couple of days. so when we take a look at the north bay valleys, you can see the dense fog advisory in place for you. but also the inland east bay valleys have it today as well. until about 11:00 and you can see just a little bit of a southerly influence that's helping to pull the fog our way. let's take a look ahead at the storm coming our way now. in order to do that we'll switch back from the fog story and pull back the radar. the line of rain gets here by about the early afternoon that's more noticeable for us. we can time the arrival of that to around say 1:00, 2:00 today and then the better bands of rain will come through in time for your evening commute home. there's two sides to this storm. there's the widespread steady rain we're going to get today through the afternoon and evening and then there's the isolated scattered showers with the occasional thunderstorm that will come through on wednesday. so j

accusations in the east bay., oakland's largest employer, is warning its employees to be vigilant in the face of rising crime. kaiser permanente says it's committed to ensuring the safety and security of its employees and physicians across all its locations, but the san francisco chronicle is reporting kaiser employees are actually being told to stay in their buildings for lunch and not to hold any meetings in downtown oakland. in addition, blue shield of california says it's paying for ride shares for employees to get to the office, along with on site parking. this comes as organizers behind the campaign to recall oakland mayor shang tao took the next step, posting an official notice of intent. you see right here on your screen about their petition in a local newspaper, the inner city express. now this petition includes pages and pages of signatures, 226 in total. the organizers wrote, quote, lives have been lost, property destroyed, businesses have shut down, and fear and collective trauma are daily occurrences

you see a lot of green in the east bay, too. but a lot of this is a ver gets evaporation before striking the ground. reports of ground reports have been sretty much focused on the north bay few pennies, maybe a nickel here or there not a whole lot yet, but the next few hours will continue to collect and it will get san francisco as well. there you have it in the total package. again, we see a break for the middle of the day early afternoon until another line moves through as we get to the late afternoon early evening. have a lot of fog and pretty much saturated above us. what's amazing, this forgives actually working, but there's a little little layer in the atmosphere. that's a little dry to go through. but not particularly that much. so most of what comes in the most of the sky, we should get. temperatures are mild as you expected win the mild sector and also a lot of cloud cover 40's on the board for right now, 50 san francisco and half moon bay. and that compares for you. by more than half a dozen degrees ahead of were number

a flood warning just popping up right there on one of those small streams draining through the east bay hills and then the north bay. also a flood warning along the russian river where we've been keeping you covered there this morning in guerneville. now we are going to be looking at continued isolated pockets of heavy rainfall. san jose, you may have quieted down but san francisco and alameda. it's picking right back up for you in right over the sfo airport is currently seeing that r d had. i think james mentioned around 60 cancellations wouldn't be surprised if we had more areas like the western edge of san francisco really coming down heavy, very windy and wet over the golden gate bridge right now. this is all traveling further eastward. so if you are along the east bay shoreline, you're already seeing rain increasing. it's going to increase even more so yet san jose's calm down. but morgan hill and gilroy, you're still in the midst of some pretty heavy showers. showers will continue in pockets throughout the rest of the day. you may see peaks of sunshine in there, but to be ready at
