there was a there was a great disagreement as to how to recognize the nlf, the vietcong. and so this i think the hope was that this would manifest into an agreement that could become a peace deal. but take us through those negotiating in in to mid 1968. yeah. i think lyndon johnson understood that, you know, his the domestic side of his legacy the great society, civil rights of 64 voting rights act of 65. he felt fairly comfortable about that side of his legacy as he went into retirement. it was concern about vietnam and vietnam where the nation was tearing itself apart. the democratic party was tearing itself apart. millions of americans watched on television in their living rooms at. the convention in chicago that year. and so understanding that was the weaker part of his legacy. i think johnson became desperate to leave office, much like nixon wanted to be known as a peacemaker. i think johnson was either desperate to find peace in vietnam by the end of his term, or at a minimum, if he couldn't do to leave his successor, whoever that might be in a better situation than
