judge marchand said, good morning, people. as you know, this matter is on today for a decision on motions. we will start there. the court has a written decision, which will be handed down right now. in substance defendant's motion to dismiss has been denied. turning now to the issue of trial, i can make you aware that i contacted judge chutkan last week on february 7th. we spoke for a bit about scheduling, which, as you know, we are permitted to do. after speaking further a bit, she called me back on february 8th and we spoke a few more minutes about scheduling. as you know, there is a lot of moving parts in the d.c. case. really nobody knows what's going to happen and when it's going to happen. so at this point i can inform you that we are moving ahead to jury selection on march 25th. donald trump's lead lawyer on the case was instantly on his feet protesting, saying that he thought, quote, we would be able to discuss the trial schedule today. the judge said, what i said was, we'd be in a better position to discuss it today,

i think judge marchand said he expected the trial would last about six weeks.w that it will last that long, frankly, and i'm sure they'll be pushing it, and it's a fairly discreet case with a fairly finite number of witnesses. six weeks sounds like the outer end of it. with regard to jury selection, so important in a case like this. there are people out there who believe when trump says things like, this is a witch hunt, this is politically motivated and controlled somehow by joe biden and the federal government even though this is a state case, that you have to weed out those people, because donald trump is out there every day pounding into them that that is true. and so, i think it's only fair that both sides be able to ask jurors whether they have these beliefs and whether they can decide this case solely on the facts and the law that they learn about in court. i think all of that is fair game to weed out all those people who might be predisposed to decide in favor of donald trump, regardless of the evidence they see. >> so, the process that the judge is goi

it's the court of public opinion here where people can reasonably question whether or not judge marchandd that's a fair question, and it gives donald trump another talking point on the campaign trail that distracts away from the substance of the case. >> all true, and i'm sure there will be more discussion about this as we get closer to that trial currently scheduled, and we'll see if it holds for the end of march. but let's pivot to yet another court case, this time in civil court, and the judge in trump's new york fraud trial had said he wanted to get a verdict by the end of january. obviously that didn't happen, but caroline, this isn't a jury case, right? it's just up to the judge to make a decision here. he's had this for months now. why do you think he hasn't issued his ruling? >> i know, again, lots of people wondering why he had promised or said at least that he was going to try to get it in sooner rather than later. as we all know, as you noted, it's not a jury trial. the issue really here is only a matter of what the damages would be. remember, there was that sort of curve ball
