johnson, seems to be shrinking by the day. friday marks the final day in congress for representative ken buck. buck, who was all but vanished from the party after he turned against the ex- president, voted no on yesterday's spending bill. just a few hours after that vote, congressman mike gallagher, who already announced plans to retire, told him that he would be handing in his pink slip early, exiting congress next month. his move leaves johnson with, wait for, just a one-vote margin . literally, one. but it doesn't stop there. things are so bad for republicans right now it seems they even lost, and you won't believe this, folks, george santos. also on friday, the disgraced former republican congressman says that he plans to run as an independent, not as a republican in new york's first district later this year. santos cited, quote, today's embarrassing showing in the house is his reason for switching parties. i have to pause here for a second and say you know it is bad when the man currently accused of using donor funds to pay for only fans and botox is embarrassed to be part of your party.

and i think mike johnson feels that that tension with his party and then you have people who are frustrated, like a ken buck who says, this is ridiculous. unless we can't just keep flipping. not that i'm like standing by and defendant ken buck by any stretch, in something, but i think that he's saying this is ridiculous. we have to be able to continue the business of the people, but that's not what the republicans want to do. and so they also, they are in the majority in the house, but they're not innocent and they don't have the white house and they don't want to compromise either. so they're doing their hands up in frustration, but realizing that they don't have the levers to actually advance an agenda. and when they get an opportunity to advance the agenda, they still say no for various it's reasons, mainly because donald trump doesn't want them to be. but if you are so frustrated with your colleagues that you won't go to a retreat with them, that you can't just finish your term out. it does talk about what type of environment that is, and it also thinks that it shows how weak of a speaker mike john

still a two-vote margin for ken buck and the republicans, he is going to step aside at the end of next week, increase the headaches for house speaker mike johnson. keep in mind they have to fund the government again at the end of next week, more spending bills to move through the house and the senate to keep the government open, two-thirds of all federal spending and have to do it with a tighter margin yet with ken buck gone. >> sandra: just a reminder, jason chaffetz here, he used to be the head of the republican party in colorado. did he say why he's leaving and the timing of the decision? >> i just looked at his statement a second ago here, just coming in as we get it here. he had indicated he was going to step down. he had expressed a lot of concern here about how things were going. he actually put forth a resolution not long ago, he was still engaged in legislation to try to invoke the 25th amendment to remove the president because of what was said in the robert hur report about whether or not the president was fully with it. that has not gotten any consideration here but that demonstrates ken buck was working on this right up to the end.

it's fascinating with more people like ken buck leave like what does the republican party on the house look like? well, it just >> shows that john, that speaker johnson absolutely has no juice and no loyalty among some of these members. i mean, he was sighted >> i mean, already even as before he announced, so you left them a voicemail. >> i mean, that is not what you >> do to a leader that you believe in. if you're a member of congress and that's what i took from this because if you keep on pressuring people and you keep on putting the screws and people like ken, buck and some of these other members that don't want to fall in line on some of these more these issues that aren't necessarily something they need to do and need to pass. this is what's going to happen because they're unhappy >> and then you end up with the teeny a majority basically in name only. i mean, for i have to say look, congress comes in for criticism on the regular, always has, always will. but the level of dysfunction that we are seeing from this particular congress. i mean, there's a text flying around the hill from a democrat who clearly had sent it to multiple people the basic

johnson, if she chooses to bring it to the floor. meanwhile, house republicans are losing more members in their already slim majority, following the exit of congressman kensoon, congressman mike gallagher of wisconsin will resign in mid- april. let's discuss this more with my political repent, republican strategist, susan dell percy obama and democratic strategist, juanita taliban. both are msnbc contributors. let's start with speaker johnson. it appears that he has found himself in a similar situation as his predecessor, kevin mccarthy, making enemies of republicans from all wings of the party. do you think his speakership is in real jeopardy? >> no, i don't, and at the beginning of the show, rev, you said you were talking about buzzer beaters, well, marjorie taylor greene was one of them. at the last possible second before the house was ready to go home, she put in a motion to vacate so she could control the media cycle for the next two weeks while everyone is away, and i really do think it was nothing more than a stunt because if she was serious, she would have started the clock, which as you mentioned earlier, she has not put it in for a former vote.

johnson said, quote, the white house doesn't get to decide how impeachment gets resolved. that is for congress to decide. but, congress has done with their inquiry so far, other than repel kent month, their star witness, former witness, alexander smirnov was indicted about lying about the bidens. can't make this up. and now we reveal how more untrustworthy he is. serious doubts about his credibility were raised almost a decade ago and no now prompting questions why he remains on the phish payroll for as long as he did. his attorneys said they are client, quote, stands behind his years of service to the u.s. and they have not responded to the request for comment and it does underscore upon which republicans face their inquiry. they can't even point to any clear evidence which asked. >>> have you seen direct evidence? because that is what we have not heard. >> well we have to connect the dots. >> there is not been produced a smoking gun, clear-cut undeniable proof of the president's involvement with his son. what do you say to that? >> well, we've never claimed that we have direct money going to the president. >> we've had more potential evidence that needs to be obtained, mo
