chris, ourwhole careers as politicaljournalists, there has been bubbling away this campaign led by the waspit saw their state pension age increase so that it was equalised with men, and lots of them feel like they lost out as a result for various reasons.

the campaign group women against state pension inequality — or waspi — say many have suffered financially

there's one waspi woman now dying every 13 minutes, and that's why we've always asked for fair and fastm talking to you today... the post—war labour government, led by clement attlee, brought in pensions for all — at 65 for men, 60 for women. but fast—forward into colour in the 1990s, and... today i've announced that| by the year 2020 the state pension age for women will be raised to 65, . the same as for men. # heigh—ho, heigh—ho! # it's off to court we go... # but thousands of women say this was never properly explained, and today a report concludes that from 2005 onwards the communication from the department for work and pensions, the dwp, was hopeless. what we're saying is, when you're providing a public service, you've got to do it right. you've got to understand your audience and the members of the public that you're dealing with. we want the dwp to be able to say to women, "we understand, we've heard, we've reflected and we're sorry this happened to you." and none of those things have happened? no. here's what has happened. they sent us a statement that hints that compensation wo

the waspi women of whom i am one.g on. >> basically the government >> so basically the government made a decision quite some time ago to ray, i think it was 1995, even to raise the pension age. eventually and it was going to kick in, i think 20 years later. what they didn't do was communicate that very well. so a lot of women who came up to pension age at or what they thought was going to be pension age at that point, actually found that they weren't yet qualifying for their pension. they had been doing all of their financial planning with the idea in mind that they were going to retire at the same age as the women in the year before this cohort, but they actually had six years that they that six more years that they that they had to then work. so it was extraordinarily badly communicated because it was so far in advance women just didn't know, because initially it was it was some thought up by john major's government, i think. >> yeah, exactly . >> yeah, exactly. >> yeah, exactly. >> it was the fag end of john major'

the chair of l their women against state pension inequality group known as waspi has shared her reactionere has been plea5ed he recogni5e5 there has been injustice. we certainly gave him evidence that... of the injustices we had suffered. even women who were divorced and had their divorce settlements around about 2010, 2012, their divorce settlements were based on a state pension age of 60. so, had thejudiciary at on a state pension age of 60. so, had the judiciary at the time known about the state pension age changes, their divorce settlements would have been based on their actual state pension age and not what it had been historically. so there is plenty of evidence that there was significant injustice. and it is good that the ombudsman has recognised that. i am really pleased that parliament have a chance to put this right. they other people who represent u5. a chance to put this right. they other people who represent us. the all—party parliamentary group provided evidence to the ombudsman inquiry and they have suggested that compensation should be at level 5ix compensation should be
