i want to turn now back to our panel caitlin huey-burns and robert costa here. it is notable that j.d. vance has a record of criticizing donald trump in the past. >> he has had a lengthy record of that but he is also considered a trump convert and that is something that is appreciated in trump's inner circle. maybe he didn't see it the first time but came around. he's also seen as someone who can translate trump early on. remember when they came out with hillbilly elegy, that was right around the time of the 2016 campaign. he was able to tell the country about this base of support donald trump had to. i also think it's significant governor dewine mentioned j.d. vance got the endorsement from trump, he was also one of the first senators to endorse donald trump all the way back in 2023 and that is also seen as something admired in the trump circles. we talk a lot about j.d. vance as a member connected to the working class but i've also talked to those close to him who believe he could also have an appeal to the suburbs, given of course his educational connections.
