and that your 12 out of 19 milwaukee county municipalities voted for scott walker. in 2018 went walker lost his reelection campaign against the democrat tony devers, only six municipalities voted for walker. in 2022 only three municipalities voted for the republican candidate. that's one kind of place in wisconsin they are shifting away from republicans. for something very different is happening and another southeastern wisconsin county. kenosha. i want to show you their page here. or i would if we had not just lost her internet connection. so in kenosha county which is located in the extreme southeastern part of the state, every municipality almost every municipality is shifted toward the republican. remarkably this includes the city of kenosha which is the only missed municipalities that is democratic kenosha city has shifted noticeably toward trump from 2006 until 2020 by about three points to change ads up across wisconsin. we could toggle the graphic to look at the same trend for gubernatorial races. this is remarkable to meet the city of kenosha shifted against

why not scott walker? guest: scott walker is here. he's here. he's been on the floor and endorsed donald trump. he's a strong presence. he makes the case for trump. paul ryan is notably absent. he is nowhere to be found. host: what does that tell you? guest: well, it tells me trump has taken over the republican party. people who once opposed him like walker have seen the writing on the wall. they want to have a future in politics in the party like nikki haley. they will move forward with trump. there are people like paul ryan who have made a stronger stance against trump and cannot stomach it. they are not participating, not willing to participate. they see him as a threat. they hope for a different republican party in the future. the prospect has really shrunk for the time being. host: what is your take on the democrats in joe biden's future? guest: it is difficult. there is ongoing discussion about whether joe biden should really be the presidential candidate for the democrats. as more time goes by it's more inevitable that is the case. there'

i think for governor, the wow counties, scott walker carried them by 46 points in 2014. republicans won them by half the margin. none of these communities ever voted democratic for governor or president for decades and those streaks ended in the last campaign for governor and president. the old map metro milwaukee it was like the most polarized place on earth. we did a whole project on the gap between the blue part and the red part of metro milwaukee was bigger than almost anywhere in the country in terms of urban and suburban. that gap is now getting smaller, not bigger. because the red parts are getting less red. if you just look at the milwaukee area and dane county which is the fastest growing county in wisconsin. it's a huge part of the math in wisconsin. those four counties, a net shift between the selections of about 190 1000 votes in a democratic direction. but on the others, everything outside those four counties collectively, a net shift toward the republican party of a little less than 190,000 votes. that's how wisconsin has in a strange way remained a battleg

and so scott walker really represented the new politics. he was not interested in what i am describing. and that changed wisconsin politics to the point where we are so politicized and so deep purple that out of 3 million votes cast the last time in a presidential election, wisconsin has been won by 21,000 votes. i cannot even calculate how much of less than 1% it is. 21,000 votes out of 3 million is like a rounding error. that is one of the reasons why wisconsin is such a battleground state. host: mordecai lee, how would you describe the current republican party and current democratic party? guest: i think we need to describe the republican party as before saturday republican party and the after saturday republican party. before saturday it was a very conservative and very ideological and very partisan. we had a situation where donald trump was representing that republican essential values. and now all of a sudden it seems like because of the saturday shooting and his heroic behavior, it is like that has washed away. and that is why i thin
