charles: all right, folks, joining me now charles schwab and company co-chief investment strategist rather a lot to unpack. i begin with a note you wrote with kevin gordon last friday which looks at rate hike cycles going back to 1929 and you put a great chart in there and looking at the chart, wow, there is nothing to really fear, but for the most part it really does well but as you pointed out in the note there is a lot of nuance as toe whether the market goes up or down over the next 12 months, right? >> not only that but you have a very small sample size in terms of prior full rate cycles by the fed where you have a hiking part of the cycle, then a pause period, then a cutting part of the cycle, only 14. you can look at the pause period. you can look six months after the first cut, or 12 months after the first cut. yes, you can do the math to come up with a median or a mean but the range is huge. by definition when you have a small sample size and a really wide range shame on anybody instead of citing an average, say something like typically the market does because there is no typical.
